AS PART OF OUR TEAM, YOU WILL:Work cross-functionally to develop equipment safety guidelines for purchasing, developing, modifying, evaluating, maintaining and inspecting equipmentPerform risk assessments on prototypes or custom-made equipment, and develop SOP’s for the safe use of this equipmentProvide guidance to stakeholders to ensure all equipment meets regulatory requirementsIdentify the correct safety standards and conduct an analysis on equipment being developed, which may include testing or engagement with local regulatory bodiesEducate equipment designers and purchasers for regulatory needs and component selection criteriaEvaluate systems and processes to ensure employee safety during installation, operation and maintenance. This will include assigning various employee trainings, developing appropriate signage and standard operating proceduresDevelop and implement strategies to systematically control and reduce safety hazardsConduct safety evaluations and incident investigations in a variety workplace settings including but not limited to office spaces, research laboratories and warehousesBe responsible for a variety of different types of equipment such as fixtures, tools, robots, machinery, control panels, measurement equipment, lasers and prototypesThe EHS Equipment Safety/Compliance Engineer will provide support as described above. The role will report to the Global Equipment Safety Manager.
  • BS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Technology, or related Engineering function.
  • 7+ years Compliance Engineering experience with product safety standards, risk assessments, and regulatory certifications.
  • Strong knowledge of worldwide regulatory safety marks for a variety of different types of equipment and machinery. Knowledge of the differences between CE marking, Field Labeling and NRTL Listing for the US market.
  • Experience with meeting local regulations (NEC, NFPA, OSHA) and experience working with various certification agencies (UL, TUV, CSA, etc.)
  • Master's or Graduate Degree in above Engineering disciplines.
  • Familiarity with a variety of international safety standards: IEC 61010, 60204, 62368, 60825, 62471 etc., as well as country-specific standards for industrial and lab equipment
  • Ability to develop global safety compliance solutions for various equipment types
  • Demonstrated experience conducting risk assessments for lab equipment or machinery, advising teams on the correct PPE, required trainings, and developing an effective operating procedure
  • Flexibility in selecting an effective failure analysis technique for varying investigation types, and collaboration with stakeholders through to completion
  • Experience conducting safety testing such as ground continuity, electric strength, thermal, etc. and completing critical component lists and technical reports for safety certifications
  • Excellent organizational skills, acute to detail, and ability to balance multiple high-priority projects in a fast paced and time sensitive environment
  • Effective communicator and proven track record to deliver clear, concise, and consistent messages in written and verbal formats to both technical and non-technical audiences
