What You’ll Do
  • Lead Machine Safety design and manufacturing across Vehicle, Energy, and AI products and programs, along with safeguarding development and production processes while advancing Tesla's mission
  • Perform technical analyses on designs for automation, robots, and manufacturing equipment to evaluate against internal and international standards, providing design recommendations that enhance safety
  • Utilize ANSI, ISO, RIA, NFPA, IBC, OSHA standards to ensure compliance in vehicle, robotic, and manufacturing designs, particularly focusing on AI integration and automation safety
  • Perform Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) to ensure manufacturers have incorporated applicable ANSI and OSHA standards into the equipment, and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) to confirm equipment safety for operation
  • Partner with internal subject matter experts from Design, Engineering, Manufacturing to review and improve safety in designs, facilitating safety-focused innovations
  • Conduct safety training for New Programs to strengthen the Design, Engineering, Manufacturing team’s competency with automation safety design principles, standards and practices
  • Contribute to Tesla's Standards for hardware and software for future equipment development
What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Controls or Industrial Engineering with a focus on AI, robotics, and manufacturing safety; or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in safety engineering, with experience in AI, robotics, or large-scale manufacturing projects preferred, emphasizing mechanical/electrical/control design
  • Proficiency with software for safety validation, design processes, integration, ensuring effective implementation. (Rockwell, Siemens, Beckhoff, Fanuc, PILZ, SICK, Keyence, Sistema)
  • Advanced understanding of safety systems relevant to AI, robotics, vehicle design, and manufacturing automation, including knowledge of PLC programming/troubleshooting, light curtain, area scanners, safe radar, safe camera systems, safe drive systems, and safety PLC’s
  • Ability to work under pressure in dynamic environments where rapid iteration and safety assurance are key, managing competing demands with a focus on safety
  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail, with excellent communication skills to convey safety principles across different teams and disciplines
  • Willingness to travel for prototype testing, Factory acceptance testing, and manufacturing commissioning, ensuring safety standards are met across all stages
