Job Description


As an intern, you will be responsible and work on a project which aims to develop a bioinformatic pipeline capable of analyzing transcriptomic datasets of cell lines propagated under different culture conditions. The primary objective is to gain insight in how the cell's transcription machinery responds to variations in growth conditions (culture media, small-scale/large scale, adherent/suspension) and present the findings to operators with the aim to optimize cell line culturing under diverse conditions. The project requires insight in the basics of cell biology, a comprehensive understanding of transcriptomic analysis and preferably, familiarity with programming languages and bioinformatic tooling.

Your responsibilities

  • Bioinformatic pipeline development and optimalization using Python and Nextflow

  • Visualization of the transcriptomics data using Python or R.

  • Work closely together with our lab scientists and the Bioinformatics team to advance our understanding of the transcriptome of cell-lines under specific conditions.

  • Providing a fresh perspective within the department: your opinion matters.

  • Working on High-Performance Computing (HPC) cluster or AWS Cloud to process the data.

  • Providing a fresh perspective to the department by sharing your opinion.

The described tasks form the basic package and will often be performed independently after a proper training and learning period. These tasks may be supplemented with other projects and/or tasks on your own initiative or at the request of the organization.


• A final-year or third-year level of education student in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology.

• Proficient in a major (scripting) language, preferably Python and/or R.

• Affinity with NGS data analysis and preferably an interest in transcriptomics.

• Excellent in English/Dutch communication skills, both written and verbal

• You are available for a period of ≥6 months for 4 to 5 days a week.
