As a Public Finance Associate within the Wholesale Credit Risk organization, you'll be at the heart of exciting lending transactions and portfolio management. You'll have the opportunity to analyze financial statements, stay ahead of industry trends, evaluate transactions, prepare impactful credit approval memos, and engage with senior credit officers and bankers. Your work will be instrumental in establishing credit facilities that align with the Bank's policies.

Job responsibilities

  • Prepare and review detailed credit approval documents, including financial analysis and modeling.
  • Take charge of overseeing and monitoring a diverse portfolio of client credit exposures across specialized industry sectors.
  • Own client credit requests, developing and recommending insightful credit opinions.
  • Conduct thorough credit analysis and secure approvals for transactions, including loans, derivatives, and operating exposures as part of a dynamic deal team.
  • Assess new loan and derivative transaction structures, determining risk appetite with precision.
  • Lead or assist in negotiating, finalizing, and executing documentation for loans.
  • Stay informed on all aspects of credit relationships, including exposure, compliance, and potential challenges.
  • Deliver a cohesive and comprehensive approach to reviewing risk ratings, risk assessments, portfolios, clients, and industries within the public finance, not for profit sector.
  • Prepare and present annual risk reviews.
  • Assign risk ratings and maintain up-to-date credit research on your client portfolio.
  • Manage the credit due diligence process for clients with expertise.

Required qualifications, capabilities and skills

  • Strong expertise in accounting and corporate finance.
  • Exceptional analytical and financial assessment skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of loan and derivative products, documentation, and structuring.
  • A genuine passion for client interaction.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, along with strong interpersonalskills.
  • A robust work ethic and the ability to excel under pressure in a collaborative, demanding environment.
  • Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word software.
  • A minimum of 3 years of related experience in credit risk, either in banking or a corporate finance role.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities and skills

  • Experience with tax-exempt and taxable credit products is a plus.
