What to Expect

This is a FLOAT position, therefore scheduling flexibility is required to be on call through differnt shifts and locations across the Bay area. Sample shifts below. When not covering a shift, this position will work 8 hour shifts (40 hrs/week) from 12PM to 8PM (flexible).
Day shift: 7:00AM to 7:00PM
Night shift: 7:00PM to 7:00AM


What You’ll Do
  • Works with Emergency Medical Services (EMT/Paramedics) to respond to acute medical emergencies. Most job duties will be conducted from a dedicated Triage and First Aid center but may require field response to support EMS
  • Provides triage, clinical assessment, first aid treatment and/or stabilization, disposition (i.e., return to work or home; referral to emergency room, urgent care or external physician appointment; referral to personal physician for non-work-related conditions) and limited follow-up for varied medical emergencies and minor emergencies including but not limited to:
  • Work-related: orthopedic trauma including sprains, fractures and acute-onset pain; burns, contusions, abrasions and lacerations; crush and amputation injuries; eye injuries including foreign bodies; chemical, thermal (heat), electrical, and other environmental exposures; perform hearing and respiratory fit testing as needed to support occupational health team
  • Non-work-related: near syncope (fainting), loss of consciousness, chest pain, headache, seizures, shortness of breath, dizziness, fever, abdominal pain; anaphylaxis, hives; panic attack, acute confusion, diabetic emergencies and other psychiatric concerns
  • Obtains and documents relevant information and communicates through high-level verbal and written communication: focused history of injury or illness, pertinent medical history, mechanism of injury and other circumstantial and historical information; to include but not limited to, PPE worn and work station details to differentiate work-relatedness from non-work-related complaint; return to work or follow-up instructions to: Direct & Emergency Medicine Physician (Supervisors); Employee (Patient), EMT, other Supervisors, Health and Safety Managers (EHS), and Workplace Health (WPH) Staff (see below)
  • Evaluates fitness for duty to return to work, including review of notes from physicians/providers, for employees after having been referred to emergency room or urgent care; Utilize excel and related systems to track QA/QI and chart auditing
  • As a Tesla employee, reports to and works under the direct clinical supervision of an Emergency Medicine Physician (independent contractor, off-site) and administrative supervision of the Tesla Workplace Health (Workers’ Compensation, Incident Investigation, Employee Advocates, and Administrative Management) staff
What You’ll Bring
  • Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited college or Bachelor’s Degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited, four-year college or university preferred
  • Current California State Registered Nurse (RN) license, in good standing with no disciplinary actions
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in emergency room, military medical and/or trauma-related environments encompassing the scope of acute medical emergency and trauma described above. Additional clinical experience in outpatient/ambulatory settings including workplace or occupational medicine clinic is preferred (Supervisor references required)
  • Current and active training in BLS, ACLS and PALS
  • Experience with and knowledge of workers’ compensation and private medical insurance, and OSHA recordability criteria, is preferred but not requisite
  • Experience with documentation in an electronic medical record (EMR)
