What you’ll do
Working in close partnership with Legal and Compliance colleagues around the world you can expect to support the business and more senior members of the legal team on responding to litigation, the sanctions environment, regulatory change and market developments anywhere in the world. You will also ensure that our policies, practices, procedures and precedent documents are up to date and compliant with latest developments in case law and legislation and help with the development of cutting edge products.
work closely with colleagues in the business and fellow control functions to ensure that the deals that the business takes on meet our legal criteria and Citi’s overarching requirements for Responsible Finance
act as an escalation point for in-business transaction managers to assist them with specific legal issues (such as amendments to indemnification language) or to interpret and/or understand contractual provisions
review, negotiate and if appropriate approve documents such as NDAs and Powers of Attorney in line with Citi requirements
instruct and manage external counsel
support other colleagues in Issuer Services legal globally including in connection with litigation, defaults, restructurings and complex issues generally
What we’ll need from you
You should have experience working as a lawyer in an international legal environment gained either in a large law firm or financial institution. Ideally you should have debt capital markets experience but an attitude that welcomes change and development is more important. This role is best suited to someone who enjoys:

In this role you will be exposed to a vast array of capital markets and banking products and over time be able to navigate your way around huge swathes of the banking world. As your career develops you will learn to take leading roles shaping new products, working with some of the most capable people in the market – both inside and outside the bank.
