Researches, designs, develops, and tests operating systems-level software and/or hardware. Designs and coordinates complex engineering projects at the system level. Performs functional decomposition to drive requirements and specifications to both hardware and software. Analyzes information to determine, recommend, and plan installation of a new system or modification of an existing system. Ensures system-level performance and power metrics are met. Drives triage of problems at the system level to determine root cause.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 4+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.
Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 3+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.
PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 2+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
• 8+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.
• 3+ years of experience with Development Environment Software such as Apache Maven, Ruby, etc.
• 3+ years of experience with Database Management Software.
• 3+ years of experience working in a large matrixed organization.
• 3+ years of experience with Testing Software such as Bugzilla, LoadRunner, etc.
• 1+ year of work experience in a role requiring interaction with senior leadership (e.g., Director level and above).
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
• Communicates with project lead and internal teams via email and direct conversation to provide status and information about impending obstacles.
• Manages analyses to identify where an issue has occurred and makes recommendations for how to address the issue.
• Independently gathers, integrates, and interprets information from a variety of sources (other project teams, technical leads) in order to troubleshoot issues and creates and implements a solution to those issues.
• Collaborates with others inside and outside of project team to accomplish project objectives.
• Participates in and offers solutions during technical conversations.
• Verifies the accuracy of systems independently.
• Independently designs implementation, testing, and automation of features for projects, and develops a testing framework for a feature by creating test cases, implementing the framework, and replicating or resolving complex issues.
• Networks with colleagues within domain to gain insight, ideas, and connections.
• Manages or reviews the results document to explain the outcome of testing and associated debugging and presents results to internal teams.
• Identifies bugs in systems architecture and framework design developed by others and fixes them, makes recommendations on how to address them when appropriate, and investigates issues in order to prevent future issues.
Level of Responsibility:
• Working independently with little supervision.
• Making decisions that are moderate in impact; errors may have financial impact or effect on projects, operations, or customer relationships; errors may require involvement beyond immediate work group to correct.
• Using verbal and written communication skills to convey complex and/or detailed information to multiple individuals/audiences with differing knowledge levels. May require strong negotiation and influence, communication to large groups or high-level constituents.
• Having a moderate amount of influence over key organizational decisions (e.g., is consulted by senior leadership to provide input on key decisions).
• Completing tasks that do not have defined steps; simultaneous use of multiple mental abilities is generally required to determine the best approach; mistakes may result in significant rework.
• Exercising substantial creativity to innovate new processes, procedures, or work products within guidelines or to achieve established objectives.
• Using deductive and inductive problem solving; multiple approaches may be taken/necessary to solve the problem; often information is missing or conflicting; advanced data analysis and interpretation skills are required.
• Occasionally participates in strategic planning within own area affecting immediate operations.
