Reporting to the York E&P Team Leader, primarily you will be responsible for design delivery of E&P Systems across Network Rail infrastructure and other worldwide rail systems ensuring consistency in delivery.
A key objective of this role is promoting technical excellence and right first-time principles with the delivery teams so a passion for quality is required.
Typical Activities
- Conceptual and outline and detailed design of engineering solutions, presentation of engineering options.
- Preparation, checking and/or approval of feasibility studies, technical reports and other written documents.
- Design, checking and/or approval of 230V and 400V power distribution including cable sizing and protection studies.
- Design, checking and/or approval of 650V power distribution including PSP, UPS and generator systems.
- Design, checking and/or approval of Internal and External Lighting schemes
- Design, checking and/or approval of Points Heating Systems
- Design, checking and/or approval of HV non-traction distribution including 11kV/33kV AC
- Production and checking of design concepts, drawings, specifications and other technical documents.
- Site Surveys including power load monitoring and lux level measurements
- Delivery of work to programme, budget and specification.
- Training and development, mentoring of junior staff.
- Planning, monitoring and reporting of project resources and finances.
- Client and third party liaison.
IT Skills
The Jobholder should be thoroughly conversant with the use of Amtech cable sizing software, Dialux and/or Relux lighting software and MS Office suite. The Jobholder should also be familiar with production of drawings using Microstation or AutoCAD packages. An understanding of the development of spreadsheets is essential.
Responsibilities
- To undertake any work of a technical nature that falls within the Jobholder’s ability and competence. To work at any position within a project team to achieve the project objectives.
- To supervise and check the work of junior staff.
- When required, to undertake the role of Task Manager, Designer or Checker as required in the design processes.
- BEng or equivalent or HNC/HND
- CEng or IEng registration is desirable (or working towards), but additional relevant experience may be accepted in lieu.
- A minimum of 6 years post-graduate relevant experience of electrical engineering design preferably on rail infrastructure projects although this is not essential.
- Extensive experience in working with BS7671 18th Edition and in-depth knowledge of the Electricity at Work Regulations.
- Good candidates with background in Building Services or similar industry will be considered.
- Knowledge of earthing and bonding requirements and compliance issues within the rail industry would be desirable.
