The Senior EHS Engineer will be a leader in the development, implementation, facilitation and continuous improvement of EHS programs and systems at the San Diego, and other California site operations. This role will provide technical advice and direction on EHS issues and challenges. You will work with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure EHS program compliance, perform safety inspections and incident investigations, and addressing general safety questions.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and maintain site specific environment, health and safety (EHS) programs designed to meet federal, state, local and Qualcomm requirements
Recommend changes in the work environment based on established EHS data, observed trends, human factors and EHS best practices
Provide technical guidance on EHS matters to management and engineering organizations
Partner with business services departments such as Facilities, Construction, Human Resources, Security to provide technical and EHS principles-based solutions as they arise
Review new/current EHS related legislation and evaluate the impacts to the organization. Promptly report conclusions or recommendations to management
Participate in networks externally with industry and professional bodies
Develop, schedule, coordinate and/or deliver EHS training. This requires occasional training during 2nd and 3rd shifts
Maintain compliance required documentation and the online learning management system to comply with EHS regulations
Conduct and/or facilitate the incident investigation process with a focus on Root Cause Analysis and Process Improvement methodology. Manage incident investigation cases in a timely manner using the online EHS case management system
Train and assist others (Project Managers, Supervisors, Management) to be aware of and to succeed at fulfilling their safety responsibilities (audits, EHS Policy, etc.)
Maintain accurate monthly metrics and records of activity in order to write a monthly, written report to management teams
Develop, facilitate and audit the implementation and effectiveness of contractor safety work plans, both project-wide and task specific, throughout the project lifecycle. This may require periodic inspection or audit during non-business hours
Review design plans and specifications for new construction, tenant improvements, machinery and equipment to ensure applicable workplace health and safety codes and regulations are met or exceeded
Identify and manage the correction of hazards and non-compliance with EHS-related codes and regulations by routinely inspecting facilities, machinery, and safety equipment. Establish and maintain an inspection schedule and upload findings and corrective actions into the EHS database
Coordinate the activities of and serve as EHS representative at site level EHS committees
Perform or coordinate industrial hygiene surveys and measurements to ensure adequate safety for workers and the environment
Operate and maintain industrial hygiene detection instruments and sampling equipment
Respond and participate in emergency response activities or events. This includes after-hours, on-call coverage as needed
Facilitate evacuation drills as required by the Emergency Action Plan
Serve as a liaison with property insurance, auditors, and regulatory agencies that may inspect and audit the facilities

IT Core Competencies
Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, WORD, EXCEL, PowerPoint) and SharePoint
Experience with cloud-based learning management systems for corporate training
Experience with cloud-based incident and case management systems
Adapts to technology quickly to complete work objectives; confidently uses new techniques and/or technologies as a routine part of work assignments; has firm grasp of how to use core computer programs

Ability to communicate concisely, effectively and professionally in verbal and written form.
Minimum Qualifications
BS or MS in environmental, health, safety management, industrial hygiene, or other EHS-related course of study
3+ years of work experience providing EHS professional support and managing projects that delivered value added results in a corporate, light manufacturing, or electronics industry setting
Preferred Qualifications
CSP, CIH
3+ years’ experience in OHSAS18001, ISO14001, ISO45001 or similar accredited EHS management systems
HAZWOPER First Responder Awareness or Operations Level
OSHA 10- or 30-hour General Industry
First Aid/CPR/AED Certified
Physical Requirements
May involve occasional work in a cold, hot, high noise, at heights, or wet environment
Work may be required outside of the standard 8-hour workday, including weekends
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Must be able to lift, push, pull and carry up to 25 lbs, ladder climbing, overhead door opening, manual material handling, pallet jack operation, basic tool usage and remain standing or walking for extended periods in the performance of site inspection and compliance activities
Perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, standing, crawling, balancing, walking significant distances, climbing ladders up to a height of 20 ft
Ability to apply torque, forceful gripping, pressing, and pushing with hands and arms

Pay range:
$92,000.00 - $138,000.00
