Job Description:
The role is in Mexico City, Mexico.
The Mexico Indirect tax supervisor will be responsible for ensuring, executing, controlling, and analyzing VAT refunds, returns and compliance with the applicable laws and requirements in Mexico.
- Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the Mexico VAT compliance and refund team of 4 people to:
- Review VAT calculations to prepare:
Monthly: VAT & withholdings,
Annual tax report (Dictamen fiscal)
Informative: DIOT
- Drive the VAT refund process across all Mexican entities to manage and optimize cash flow impacts.
- Draft responses to SAT inquiries according to law proceedings(Requerimientos & compulsas).
- Experience in attending and managing SAT inquiries and audits, actively participating in discussions with tax authority officials.
- Knowledge of electronic invoicing “CFDI 4.0”
- Provide consultation to tax personnel and businesses about indirect tax issues and outputs for generally defined items of medium to high complexity requiring general understanding of principles, theories, concepts, and analysis.
- Participate in regular oversight of the process to continuously improve and ensure efficiency.
- Monitor legislation, conduct tax related research and analysis requiring a general understanding of tax practices and procedures.
- Handle routine and straightforward correspondence with tax authorities related to VAT.
- Advise on VAT matters applicable to routine business transactions,
- Independently solve complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating more complex issues to appropriate team members.
- Analyze compliance processes utilizing both tax and/or technical knowledge, to identify tax and work process issues in practice to minimize tax risks.
- Review and analyze VAT provisions and accruals for financial statements.
- Review VAT audit issues and identify key opportunities on recurrent tax authorities’ inquiries (formal and informal: invitation letters & e-mails, deep review, SAT releases, etc).
- If needed by business might provide support with IT-related activities.
- Knowledge and abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting/law.
- 3+ years of progressive experience in taxes.
- Strong knowledge of Mexican tax laws and regulations.
- Strong command of Microsoft, Excel, Access to cope with big databases. Experience with Alteryx, PowerBI and similar data analytics tools is a plus.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, including networking and teamwork.
- Experience supervising people.
- Advanced fluency level in English (both verbal and written).
