Key Responsibilities

Data Strategy & Innovation

  • Define and execute the strategy for external (bureau and alternative) data across credit and risk domains based on product, market and regulatory needs.
  • Identify and evaluate new data sources to complement traditional bureau data.
  • Partner with AI/ML teams to unlock the potential of external data in predictive modeling and decisioning.

Data Product Management and Platform Development

  • Own external data as a product, ensuring clear value articulation, adoption/usage, performance tracking/monitoring, and lifecycle management.
  • Lead roadmap development and execution for external data platforms, integration and usage of new data sources in credit strategies, modeling and analytics.
  • Ensure access, consumption, and management of external data assets are optimized by working backwards from the customer.

Bureau and Alternative Data Operations

  • Oversee bureau reporting processes, ensure accuracy, and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Manage vendor relationships, including selection, contracting, onboarding, operations, and performance management.
  • Drive rigorous governance and controls around usage, quality, and privacy of external data assets.

Leadership & Stakeholder Management

  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing team of data product managers, analysts and data scientists.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Legal, Compliance, Credit/Fraud Risk, Technology, Product, Data Science, AI, Modeling and Analytics teams.
  • Serve as the face of the bureau and alternative data function to internal and external executives, regulators, and data providers.
  • Lead contract negotiations and strategic partnerships with data vendors and bureaus.

Skills required

  • 15+ years of experience working with credit bureau and alternative data sources, with a track record of deploying these assets to drive business impact in lending or credit risk functions.
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience managing data acquisition, integration, and usage for strategy, modeling, and reporting.
  • 10+ years of building and deploying data products and platforms.
  • Strong command of data architecture, pipelines, and governance frameworks.
  • Lead data science and engineering teams and use AI/ML to enhance data value.
  • Experience managing data as a product and platforms with a strong grasp of product lifecycle, internal customer needs, go-to-market strategies, and measurement metrics. Ability to assess quality and optimize performance.
  • In-depth understanding of relevant regulatory environments (e.g., FCRA, ECOA, GLBA, GDPR), especially as they apply to data sourcing, usage, and bureau reporting.
  • Experience interfacing with legal, compliance, and audit functions to ensure controls and traceability.
  • Demonstrated impact across consumer, merchant, and/or global credit products, with a nuanced understanding of credit lifecycle use cases (e.g., underwriting, portfolio management, collections).
  • Proven ability to develop data strategies aligned with broader credit, risk, and customer experience goals.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complexity and drive alignment at the executive level.
  • Trusted relationship builder with internal stakeholders and external data providers; adept in managing sensitive negotiations and building long-term partnerships.
  • Experience building, mentoring, and scaling diverse, high-performing teams.
  • Track record of developing talent and fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and customer obsession.

Preferred Education & Credentials

  • Master's degree in a quantitative technical, or business discipline (i.e., Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Economics, or Finance).
  • PhD in data-intensive or decision science domains is a plus.
  • Certifications in AI/ML, data privacy, or regulatory compliance is a plus.

The US national annual pay range for this role is $242,000 to $359,150
