What The Candidate Will Do

  • Leader in EMEA for the global Privacy and Cybersecurity Legal team responsible for managing and improving data protection compliance processes such as risk assessments, third-party assessments, KPIs, privacy-by-design, automated decision-making, and data subject rights.
  • Manage practical business unit support by advising product and engineering teams on new product launches, contracts, and general data privacy and cybersecurity requirements and best practices.
  • Manage regulatory inquiries and investigations and litigations for the region.
  • Manage cybersecurity incidents for the region.
  • Drive reporting and awareness with stakeholders across Uber's business, policy, legal, communications, operations, and other departments on developments in regional privacy and cybersecurity compliance.
  • Manage M&A acquisition and integration work.
  • Collaborate with public policy on new and proposed laws and regulations.
  • Create engaging company-wide trainings for stakeholders.
  • Collaborate on global data privacy and security group projects with the rest of the global team, and lead team morale and collaboration efforts.
  • Provide hands-on inclusive leadership to direct reports and contributors from other groups.
  • Contribute to our ongoing mission to make magic in the marketplace, and drive Uber’s efforts to be a trusted steward of our users’ personal data in every market where Uber operates.

Basic Qualifications

  • Law degree with a minimum of 12 years of relevant legal experience, including at a law firm and/or in-house.
  • Minimum of 8 years experience within internet or technology companies, or within global privacy and/or cybersecurity law.
  • Strong knowledge of GDPR compliance.
  • Expertise in data protection and security assessments/evaluations, foundational processes and operations, and KPIs and reporting.
  • Commercial acumen with assessing data protection requirements for products and engineering projects.
  • Strong people management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • In-house legal experience preferred, particularly in connection with technology platform.
  • Experience counseling product and engineering teams.
  • Experience with ADM (automated decision making, PWD (Platform Work Directive), and EU AI Act.
  • Self-motivation with a strong affinity for vision setting, strategic problem solving, and driving action. Demonstrated ability to independently lead a diverse and complex workload while maintaining priorities and proactively anticipating issues.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, highly collaborative with business leaders and cross-functional partners, and a strong ability to build relationships, gain credibility, and partner with others.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills with the ability to present information/complex legal matters clearly and concisely.
  • Collaborative, flexible, a positive attitude, and ability to constructively manage change.
  • Embodies the highest standards of integrity, ethics, and accountability.
  • CIPP certification preferred.
