The ideal candidate has 3+ years of data security, data privacy, data protection, and governance experience and a strong grasp of online technologies. They must be skilled at translating legal concepts into practical advice and an active driver of solutions. They must thrive in a cross-functional, fast-moving environment.

Your day to day:

  • Serve as a key subject matter expert and legal advisor in connection with data security incidents and supporting the company’s incident response program, including investigating potential incidents, identifying applicable legal obligations, and supporting incident response and any remediation activities.
  • Partner with product, business, compliance, and other global legal teams to proactively address regulatory guidance and issues and drive high-impact projects in a unified manner.
  • Collaborate with Compliance colleagues and the Global Privacy Office to ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Advise on new and emerging legal and regulatory developments impacting global cybersecurity and data protection, including identifying trends and potential impacts on business activities.
  • Revise contracts and counsel stakeholders on contractual terms relating to data protection and cybersecurity.
  • Develop an in-depth knowledge and understanding of PayPal’s core business and strong relationships with business counterparts to drive the delivery of effective legal services.
  • Model and coach others on leader behaviors including growth mindset, collaboration, action-bias, direct and empathetic communication.

What do you need to bring-

  • JD degree with excellent academic credentials and 5-9 years of relevant experience in-house or at a law firm.
  • Cybersecurity subject matter expertise with tech regulation and experience of interaction with data privacy authorities and/or regulatory agencies. Fintech experience preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of cutting edge IT, web, mobile, and payment ecosystem technologies (especially
    those used in the collection, storage and analysis of data) and their privacy and data security
    implications.
  • Demonstrated experience advising product teams on global privacy regulations, translating legal guidance into practical solutions, and driving solutions cross-functionally.
  • Excellent project management skills, well organized, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment and manage numerous projects simultaneously under deadline pressure.
  • A high-level of intellectual, professional and interpersonal agility and flexibility, combined with sound judgment and high tolerance for ambiguity.
  • Team oriented, with ability to keep a cool head, empathy, and a sense of humor in busy and high-pressured environments.
