Mechanical Engineer, Facilities and Construction, will have two main roles. One role will be working on mechanical design/construction observation for new or renovated facilities projects in the Asia region, either as an in-house designer on selective projects (working with an internal design team) or as a reviewer on designs created by outside design firms under contract to Qualcomm. This role will include preparing mechanical project requirements and scopes and monitoring outside design consultants’ adherence to those requirements. The second role will be to work with Qualcomm facilities staff to plan for and implement improvements to mechanical and plumbing systems at Qualcomm buildings in the region, including in such areas as control and monitoring systems and sustainable design initiatives.

Candidate shall be part of a multi-discipline internal design studio and will be responsible for the mechanical and plumbing engineering to the entire team; the candidate shall provide mechanical and plumbing expertise and input required to assist the design team to proceed in the right direction. Candidate will participate in and host meetings with end users and Facilities Operators to establish programmatic requirements for new and altered spaces.

Designs building mechanical, plumbing and control systems. Assist with the review of mechanical designs submitted by contracted design firms and identify areas where the designs do not comply with the applicable mechanical codes and good practices.

5+ years design experience in areas of engineering including full building mechanical, plumbing, HVAC Central Plant and distribution systems, compressed air systems, data centers, power plants, co-generating systems, sustainable design, energy audits, commissioning of mechanical systems, and engineering studies.

3+ years’ experience with HVAC Thermal Load design and Energy Compliance software is required.

3+ years’ experience designing and drawing in AutoCAD, Revit/ BIM, performing Life Cycle Cost analysis using packaged software or Excel spreadsheets is absolutely required.

3+ years’ experience being a Design Project Manager for a Mechanical Systems Design Firm or equivalent experience is absolutely required.

Knowledgeable in mechanical engineering field and related disciplines with expertise in electrical engineering. Experience in latest approaches to Tier 3 data center construction, including specialty cooling systems, humidity management systems, generators and latest industry practices for computer room A/C and UPS units. Thorough knowledge of innovative design and implementation of mechanical and plumbing systems for office buildings and data centers. In depth familiarity with building mechanical systems, HVAC, and energy management systems. Must demonstrate good knowledge and exposure to central plant design, modification, and operations. Extensive familiarity with codes, software, and calculation methods required to meet mechanical and energy codes, and the application forms and systems needed to submit for rebates and incentives.

Expert of how mechanical/plumbing systems interact with, define, and support electrical systems typically found in office and R&D buildings, power plants and data centers.

Familiarity and understanding with Local and Regional Building Standard codes (in particular, the Mechanical Code and Energy Code) are required, along with general knowledge of International Mechanical and Plumbing Codes.

Licensed Professional Mechanical Engineer a plus.

An active ASHRAE or ISHRAE member with understanding of standards in HVAC industry is a plus

Practical Contracting background as Design Build engineer/estimator is a plus.

Experience in providing cost estimate of proposed mechanical and plumbing systems for project budget forecasting is a plus.

LEED Accredited Professional certification is a strong plus.

Familiarity with regional (Asia) mechanical systems design is a highly valued plus.
