Job Description
As the Product Line leader of the Scientific Data & Analytics Platform (SDAP) you will develop vision for technology platform and services to enable frictionless dataflow and generation of insights from data, in support of drug discovery and synthesis of therapies and vaccines. Scope of this platform includes support for scientific modeling workflows such as Grace, Gaussian etc as well as insights from data including AI/ML, mathematical modeling and descriptive insights. This role will supported by a data architect, who will define patterns of usage and technology solutions needed to support these patterns in the form of data architecture. This role will have to work in close collaboration with enterprise services for data and analytics and infrastructure to leverage enterprise services and standup platforms and services specific to division where necessary.
Responsibilities:
Work with scientific stakeholders in early research and development sciences to understand their data, analysis and modeling needs
Collaborate with data architect to define data architecture to support these needs, including storage and compute architecture and reference architecture for common data management and insights needs
Define overall platform vision and strategy to support these needs with a keen focus on value, business outcome, and user experience
Understand and continue to evaluate storage and compute options available in the industry and implement solutions to enable easy use of storage and compute, including specialty compute such as HPC.
Enable and manage division-specific solutions in support of data movement, transformation, insights generation, and governance
Operationalize and industrialize computational models for broader consumption.
Provide adoption services for products in the platform as well as enterprise offerings to service end-to-end use case needs.
Monitors and optimizes platform total cost of ownership (TCO)
Develop strong collaboration with enterprise service teams to understand, and influence enterprise services in support of research community needs
Coach, guide, manage and develop a team of technical product managers, engineers, architects across product line to own technology solutions from conception to retirement
Provides the day-to-day management of engineering, delivery, configuration and reliable operations of the platform services supporting the business systems.
Manages system availability, capacity, incident, problem resolution and asset life cycle management.
Develops and executes business continuity and disaster recovery plans as necessary
Makes platform decisions, and ensures decisions align with platform strategy
Education Minimum Requirement:
B.A./B.S. or M.A./M.S. in a scientific or technical discipline (such as computer science, engineering, biology, chemistry, etc.). Pharmaceutical experience preferred but not mandatory.
Required Experience and Skills:
Minimum of 10 years in cloud and platform engineering, with at least 3 years leading enterprise scale platforms supporting large scale, complex modeling, data and analytics needs
Experience in supporting data and compute intensive workloads including HPC and large-scale AI/ML model workflows
Strong understanding of current cloud trends and offerings, and extensive hands on experience and strong expertise in cloud engineering
Experience managing technical product managers and cloud and platform engineers to enable services in support of data and compute intensive workflows
Proven experience in team building, mentoring, and leadership with demonstrated ability to inspire others to follow a common vision
Strong financial acumen to understand and manage finances for the platform and investment decisions based on value
Ability to function in geographically distributed culturally diverse environment
Strong communication skills with ability to align the organization on complex technical decisions
Demonstrate strategic thinking skills and an eagerness to learn scientific processes, drug discovery and development processes, regulatory requirements as necessary to solve problems.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
Five or more years in a Drug discovery environment is preferred.
Worked with Product Management tools like Jira, Jira Align and experience working in agile methodologies (scrum, Kanban etc.)
