The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As a US Income Tax Controversy Lead, you will make an impact by:
- Proactively managing U.S. federal and state income tax audits including collaborating with auditors, responding to issues and information requests, performing technical research, evaluating potential issues, and providing critical analysis.
- Researching and analyzing technical issues and writing position papers for audit defense.
- Supporting the development of strategies to successfully defend and resolve U.S. Federal and State income tax controversies.
- Managing audit plans, negotiation strategies, appeals, and complex tax litigation matters.
- Collaborating across Tax, including Transfer Pricing, and Finance functions on the execution of audit plans.
- Monitoring legislative changes, evaluating the impact of changes and effectively communicating the findings to management.
- Analyzing and documenting uncertain tax positions and ongoing controversies.
- Clearly communicating audit developments to leadership.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
- Minimum ten (10+) years income tax experience in a public accounting firm or large, multi-entity corporation, and/or law firm in a private, public, government or military environment
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- Master's degree from an accredited institution
- Knowledge of key U.S. tax laws and regulations impacting multi-national corporations
- Knowledge of U.S. R&D credit rules and U.S. incentives is preferred
- Knowledge of U.S. GILTI and FDII rules
- Experience with deductibility of legal settlements
- Working professionally with tax auditors
- Exceptional written and verbal communications skills
- Project management experience
