• Accountable for breaking in new sales opportunities with strategic business impact within market.• Evaluates and handles the opportunities in terms of risk analysis and profitability in order to get investment approvals.• Leads the team to ensure that deals are won in a profitable way.• Directly responsible for creating and managing top level contacts within the customer's organisation.• Influences functional or even business strategy to address internal or external business and regulatory issues.• Is responsible for high quality of processes and standards.• Enriches professional expertise with profound knowledge of the market, competition and / or academic environment in the area of specialisation.• Proactively identifies and solves the most complex problems and thinks beyond existing solutions to create sustainable competitive advantage.• Ensures alignment of taken decisions with the overall business strategy.• Ensures the strategic alignment of professional direction for business-relevant organisational units.• Is recognised as an external thought leader within a strategic function or organisational unit.• Drives thought leadership, the shaping of functional strategy and senior management advice within the area of expertise, typically with global, sometimes organisation wide leverage.

Operates at the senior level of the business effectively with a global mindset and in many different environments (e.g. outside of home country, new business unit/entity, different cultures).Frequently negotiates and compromises to influence internal and external parties who may have conflicting objectives to accept concepts, practices and approaches.Requires ability to communicate with senior executive leadership ( internal / external) regarding matters of strategic importance to the organisation using highly complex arguments.Broad management experience across several functional areas or businesses, or concentrated knowledge of a particular discipline.Command of content and purpose of several functions. Can develop relevant and creative solutions to meet current and evolving business needs. May be internally & externally recognised, leading authority in the field. Typically requires >12 years extensive relevant experience and/or a graduate / postgraduate equivalent degree. PhD degree would normally be expected in R&D stream.
