As a payroll manager, you will be responsible for the efficient operation of a payroll system, ensuring that all payroll processes are accurate and up-to-date, while complying with federal, state, and local labor laws and regulations. You will report directly to the payroll and finance management team, or the CFO or COO (or equivalent position) in larger companies.
Your daily duties may include calculating and ensuring that all required deductions are taken out of employee salaries, keeping track of employee attendance and leave records, maintaining payroll database and records, entering pay data into the payroll system, and compiling and distributing monthly payroll reports to management and HR personnel.
In this role, you will be the one responsible for handling payroll inquiries from employees and responding to and resolving any discrepancies in a timely manner. Your problem-solving and organizational skills will shine as you troubleshoot technical issues related to payroll procedures and programs. When necessary, you will work with a payroll vendor to process payrolls and make sure that all payroll information is accurate.
Your strong attention to detail and analytical mindset is essential for this position. You should also have excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills, as well as a working knowledge of relevant computer systems and applications.
