Responsibilities:

  • Drafting various agreements during the development and production periods including, without limitation, certificates, writer agreements, and actor agreements.

  • Preparation and review of summaries of above-the-line talent deal terms (e.g. contractual travel requirements, dressing rooms, perks)

  • Acting as point person for fielding questions related to paperwork, talent representatives’ information, talent deal terms

  • Partnering closely with cross-functional departments (e.g., Marketing, Production, Copyright Admin, Minors and Diligence) to ensure operational efficiency with the Business Affairs team

  • Maintaining and updating various dashboards and document management systems

  • Working with Business Affairs executives, line producers and production personnel regarding day-to-day business/legal issues during prep, principal and post-production

  • Coordinating receiving, distributing and uploading signed agreements internally and externally

Qualifications:

  • Over 2 years of legal experience within the entertainment industry, at a production company and/or an entertainment agency

  • Working understanding of television production, whether for scripted or unscripted content

  • Prior experience drafting short-form production agreements

  • Exposure to television production agreement deal terms and ability to identify issues

  • Exceptional organizational and planning skills, with the ability to track multiple projects and meet deadlines

  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills

  • Experience working with external partners and meeting strict deadlines

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on cross-functional teams

  • Bachelor's degree preferred

  • Inputting social media assets into Socialite, our asset management system

  • Setting up Dropbox links with talent tool-kits, and creating/sending templated social emails to talent reps

  • Budget management duties - processing invoices, SOWs, data entry

  • Helping field requests from global cross-functional teams – relaying feedback, email follow-ups.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years experience working at a network, studio, creative agency or similar entertainment industry environment

  • Tech-savvy with absolute proficiency in Google Workplace (formerly G Suite)

  • Highly organized, able to effectively prioritize and respond accordingly to the shifting needs of the team

  • Self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced setting

  • Positive attitude and team player, especially when faced with changing responsibilities

  • Comfortable working with executives at all levels of the organization

:

  • Research and provide tax and incentive advice to Netflix cross-functional partners, such as Production Management, Production Finance, and Business & Legal Affairs teams, with specific regard to cash flow, talent engagement, tax withholding, and indirect taxes.

  • Evaluate and apply for production incentives (both domestic and international), and provide show-level support and tracking through the production, audit, and monetization phases.

  • Effectively communicate complex tax and incentive matters in simple terms to other stakeholders and be comfortable making timely judgment calls in ambiguous situations.

  • Coordinate with external advisors and the broader Netflix Corporate Tax Operations team to review international statutory accounts and tax returns, ensure incentive compliance, and maximize internal tax credit utilization.

  • Liaise with Netflix Content Accounting and FP&A teams on financial reporting related to global incentives.

  • Collaborate with the Studio Policy team to monitor and analyze existing and proposed tax/ incentive legislation, and assist in defining and implementing appropriate international tax planning strategies.

Qualifications
:

We find that individuals who quickly obtained Manager-level at a studio or public accounting firm are more likely to be suited to this unique and challenging role. If you’re a Manager or a rising star Senior Tax Associate, we’d love to talk to you. If your background is more on the production side and includes several years of experience with film production incentives, we’d love to talk to you as well!

  • 5 to 7 years of tax experience, including public accounting, law firm, and/or relevant in-house industry experience preferred

  • CPA preferred but not required

  • Experience with film production tax & incentive matters, or strong production finance experience at a studio a strong plus

  • International tax consulting or production finance experience a plus

  • Obtain guild/union waivers and approvals as necessary.

  • Review and coordinate approval of final main and end titles for each project to meet delivery deadlines and ensure contractual and Guild compliance.

  • Seek innovative solutions to Guild and contractual credit restrictions.

  • Build and update forms and templates to improve team efficiency.

  • Advise and educate partners on best practices, precedents, and guild/union requirements.

  • Ability to structure, draft, and negotiate below-the-line production agreements with moderate oversight, ensuring alignment with Netflix and industry standard and deal contexts (e.g. physical production department head agreements; casting director agreements; line producer agreements; short term production services agreements; vendor/rental agreements; equipment rental agreements; vehicle rental agreements; aviation, charter & drone rental agreements; watercraft agreements; location agreements; production office space/stage/facilities lease agreements; post-production agreements and visual effects agreements).

  • During negotiations, clearly and succinctly communicate solutions to internal production and business partners as well as external producers and production personnel (e.g. Line Producer/UPM, Production Office Coordinator, Location Manager).

  • Efficiently resolve issues without causing delays, adapting to the fast-paced nature of production legal work.

  • Establish and maintain strong internal relationships with Business & Legal Affairs colleagues and cross functional partners including Production Management, Post Production, VFX, Labor, Finance, Health and Safety, Tax, Real Estate, Marketing/Publicity and Risk Management teams.

  • Exercise sound judgment and curiosity regarding matters of first impression or complex issues.

Requirements:

  • An undergraduate degree.

  • At least 3-5 years of proven experience in a similar business/legal affairs role in the film or television industry, including experience drafting film and/or scripted series below-the-line production agreements specifically.

  • The ability to work proactively and reliably on multiple projects simultaneously under tight timeframes in a fast-paced production environment; being able to prioritize, quickly assess risk and exercise strong judgment in the face of ambiguity.

  • The ability to organize, clarify, and communicate complex ideas quickly, succinctly and accurately.

  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively, think practically and be solutions-oriented.

  • Confidence in counseling business partners and making decisions that have legal & business impacts.

  • The ability to remain flexible and respond positively to changes.

  • Tech-savvy individual, including proficiency with Google Suite and cloud-based document and database systems.

  • Willingness to tackle matters outside of expertise.

  • JD, Paralegal certification or Bar admission accepted, but not required.

  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams for legal deliverables as applicable

  • Manage documentation for licensed acquisitions, including festival runs and theatrical releases

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Participate in cross-functional meetings (e.g., acquisitions department, screen credits and residuals meetings )

  • Conduct project delivery kick-off meetings
