The Tax Sr. Litigation Specialist accomplishes results through the technical management of tax litigation matters. The role integrates subject matter and industry expertise within a defined area and contributes to standards around which others will operate. It requires an in-depth understanding of how areas collectively integrate within the sub-function as well as coordinate and contribute to the objectives of the entire function. Basic commercial awareness is required. Developed communication and diplomacy skills are essential to guide, influence and convince others, in particular colleagues in other areas and occasional external customers. The role includes responsibility for volume, quality, timeliness and delivery of end results of an area. May have responsibility for planning, budgeting and policy formulation within area of expertise. The position involves short-term resource planning and responsibility for technical aspects of litigation, supporting the Tax Litigation and Advisory Manager.Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the overall technical management of tax litigation matters, including compliance, financial reporting, planning and managing disputes with tax authorities.
- Responsible for managing the relationship with the external law firms.
- Works closely with internal and external stakeholders to resolve complex tax issues.
- Contributes to the planning, accounting, filing and the reporting of the tax contingencies of the company.
- Conducts research on tax litigation issues, provide comprehensive analysis and risk assessments, and supports the tax team on potential tax litigation risks and opportunities.
- May participate in managing payments of judicial deposits, lawyers fees and payments to tax authorities.
- Manages tax audits and disputes, develops and implements strategies for resolving tax disputes.
- Uses a comprehensive knowledge of multiple areas within a function and how they interact in order to achieve the goals of the function and applies in-depth knowledge of the business impact of technical contributions.
- Regularly interacts with peers within the company and externally, including regulators and professional organizations.
- Has the ability to operate with a limited level of direct supervision.
- Ability to manage projects and influence other areas.
- Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.
