As a Fire Protection Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
Supporting our Sales team in specifying 3M products into construction projects
Training customers, sales representatives, and colleagues
Analyzing customer needs and inform product testing & certification decisions
Designing, Executing, and Reporting fire testing plans
Providing objective technical advice to help customers deliver code-compliant solutions
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) in a Science or Engineering field from an accredited institution
- One (1) year of experience working within the construction industry, or a test laboratory and/or engineering environment in a private, public, government or military environment
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- Master's degree in Fire Protection, Fire Safety Engineering, or related discipline from an accredited institution
- Three (3) combined years of experience working within the construction industry, or a test laboratory and/or engineering environment in a private, public, government or military environment
- License in Professional Engineering (P.E.)
- Commercial construction industry experience (including passive firestop trade)
- Three (3) years of ApplicationEngineering/TechnicalService experience
- Experience with data analysis and database management
- Experience in computer drafting (2D & 3D)
- Control systems (e.g. Programmable Logic Controller) functional experience
- Technical expertise and practical experience with construction adhesives
- Understanding of U.S. and Global building codes
- Expertise with Underwriters Laboratories (UL), American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM), International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and European Norm (EN) fire test standards
