Launching your career as a Sanctions Escalations Associate within Global Screening Operations (GSO) means you will be a part of a the EMEA Transactions Screening team, investigating live transactions which present potential AML (“Anti Money Laundering”) and Sanctions concerns. The Sanctions Escalations team reviews escalated payments and other live transaction alerts from the Central Screening Unit (“CSU”) against applicable sanctions lists (OFAC, EU, UK and other internal lists). Sanctions Escalations has implemented a follow-the-sun support model in order to utilize global capacity to meet demand and time-zone advantage. Escalated transactions may therefore be reviewed by analysts located in WHEM, EMEA or APAC unless restrictions apply. Occasional overtime may be required.

As a Global Screening Operations - Sanctions Escalations - Associate within the Sanctions Escalations team, you will work in a team environment and must be able to adapt to a rapidly changing business and regulatory environment. You will be responsible for reviewing alerts to determine whether payments are permissible or if there are restrictive actions necessary or a false positive against the entity of concern. You will be responsible for investigating cases initially processed by the Sanctions Escalations Initial Review team (“IR”). Any cases with potential sanctions concerns will be pended to Sanctions Escalations, Senior Escalations Team (SET) to fully investigate. If a positive match is identified and deemed not permissible in relation to the list, the alert is dispositional according to guidance.

Job responsibilities

  • Reviews escalated payments and other live transaction alerts from the Central Screening Unit (“CSU”) against applicable sanctions lists (OFAC, EU, UK and other internal lists) - this includes the process to determine if there is a true match to a suspect name, review, analysis and deciding on wire transactions and specific issues escalated to/from internal business units
  • Validates on positive search results and providing detailed research information to support the resolution of a match
  • Provides written and verbal communication on issues with management, the lines of business and Compliance units, performing and reviewing highly sensitive client and transaction search information, reporting, escalating and documenting results

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Relevant business experience in banking
  • A thorough knowledge of banking, Sanctions processes, service operations, products and systems and the ability to work effectively in a high volume, deadline driven, diverse team/site environment
  • Ability to work flexible hours is required as well as willingness to perform additional duties and special projects as requested
  • Ability to deliver strong business results against internal and market cut offs in a fluid and ever-changing sanctions environment
  • Advanced analytical and written skills, enabling the clear and accurate summarization of your decision making
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective relationships with other teams
  • Ability to follow procedures, maintain quality standards, understand regulatory requirements while adhering to the appropriate controls
  • Initiative and a solution-oriented consultative mindset

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Previous experience of Sanctions, financial crimes compliance or a related position
  • Proactive and resourceful mindset
  • MS Office skills including intermediate Excel skills
