As anin Microsoft Search Relevance team, you will work with other scientists to solve challenging problems that can delight Copilot Search and Chat users. Some high-level examples include model adaptation of the state-of-the-art vector search algorithm into an enterprise domain and applying advanced ML (machine learning) to improve the retrieval quality of business-critical information by jointly optimizing query understanding and the retrieval algorithm. You will also be deeply involved with a platform team to accelerate the speed of evaluation of the retrieval algorithms at scale.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
  • OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
  • OR Doctorate in Statistics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field
  • OR equivalent experience.
• 2+ years experience in shipping applied research to production, highlighting combining coding skills with advanced expertise in AI model development.

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

• Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

• You will gain expertise in one or more subareas of research and understand applicable research techniques. You’ll also gain deep knowledge of a service, platform, or domain, and become familiar with the latest industry trends and applied technologies.
• You will apply strategies provided by senior team members and incorporate state-of-the-art techniques. You’ll also develop an understanding of customer pain points in Copilot Chat and Search and design an algorithm to improve search quality end-to-end while gaining expertise in a deeply specialized area.
