Job Description
The primary responsibility of Sr. Specialist, Legal & Compliance, Japan
- Report to one of the Directors, Legal & Compliance, Japan (”L&C”).
- Provide legal & compliance consultation, guidance, advice and support to other functions in Japan, independently, or as directed by and under the supervision of the Directors and/or Executive Director of L&C, depending on complexity/difficulty of the issues.
- As a member of L&C and International Legal & Compliance ("ILC”), the individual shall collaborate closely with the personnel in charge of compliance of various functions of the Company and work in conjunction with ILC, as needed.
Primary Activities and accountabilities, including but not limited to
- Provide business and other stakeholders, including personnel in charge of compliance, with adequate and pertinent legal advice and compliance input to ensure that the Company complies with all legislative and regulatory requirements as well as the Company’s global and local policies, compliance standards and local industry rules and guidelines.
- Support various legal and/or compliance projects and/or initiatives.
- Understand and adapt changes in policies by the headquarters of the Company into local guidance and policy. Assist to adopt external code and law changes into local SOP and practices.
- Conduct investigations on misconducts and prepare remediation actions.
- Draft, review and negotiate legal documentation in Japanese and English.
Skills, Knowledge, Experience & Qualifications required:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
- 5-7 years in-house legal and/or compliance experience. Experience in a large multinational pharmaceutical or healthcare organization would be advantageous.
- Language proficiency with Japanese at native level and with English reading and writing at business level required. English speaking at business level would be advantageous.
- Ability to work collaboratively, interact with and influence cross functional teams, and to deal effectively with a broad range of people across all levels.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written), including the ability to conduct training and interviews, as needed.
- Positive mindset to tackle on new and/or difficult issues and work to build alignment around complex or challenging situations.
- Ability to pay attention to details, and logical and critical ways of thinking.
- Ability to provide practical, commercially focused and value-added legal and compliance advice.
- Ability to work autonomously as well as within a team environment.
- Familiarity with the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, the UK Bribery Act, and equivalentanti-corruption/anti-briberylaws in Japan would be advantageous.
