- Provide technical assessment of existing or new manufacturing partners- Identify manufacturing processes to meet product design- Develop test processes to ensure quality- Work with suppliers to develop fixtures to ensure correct performance and mechanical requirementWe ensure that all technical risks associated with a product are identified and closed or mitigated to enable a quality ramp. We identify, prioritize handle key technical risks of a given product and ensure a smooth handoff of product to Supplier Quality Engineering.Provide technical leadership in resolving sophisticated issues during bring-up and life of product, identifying technical changes needed in order to support operations product manager as needed throughout the life of the product.RESPONSIBILITIES:- Technical lead for manufacturing operations at multiple vendors and sites.- Driving contract manufacturer preparation for pre-production builds.- Production process development, documentation, optimization and validation.- Development and implementation of new technologies to improve production quality, capacity and efficiency.- Provides direction, mentorship and resources to other engineering groups and project leaders as well as factory technicians.- Act as lead engineer on a variety of projects and participates in the project planning of major sub-projects.- Performs assignments in several of the following manufacturing engineering functions:Design for Manufacturability - Provide early and ongoing manufacturing involvement to ensure manufacturability of new products.Process Engineering - Designs and develops technically complex processes to improve quality and efficiency.Failure/Data Analysis - Plans, develops and implements technically complex procedures for the testing and evaluation of soon to be released products. Specifies test to be performed, compiles data and makes recommendations for product design changes and final assembly standards. This will include the use of Design of Experiments (DOE) and statistical analysis using Six Sigma principles.Provide regular VP level communication of technical health of program.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 7+ years experience of hands-on experience in Design / Manufacturing Process Development
  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters in an Engineering field
  • 4 to 10 years of industry experience in consumer electronics and inductive winding
  • Expertise in small motor design and manufacturing with emphasis in at least two of these categories: Motor Design involving Acoustics, Bearing Design, EM Motor Design and analysis. Motor Manufacturing Processes and components such as Coil Windings, magnets, coatings. Motor Performance Testing and Failure Analysis
  • Manufacturing expertise especially in assembling precision electro-mechanical devices, joining processes such as welding, gluing, press-fits
  • Design for Six Sigma qualified highly beneficial
  • Proficiency with GD&T (geometric dimensioning and tolerancing), metrology techniques, statistical process control, FMEA, machining processes, DFM
  • Excellent project management skills, working in a matrix organization with demonstrable track record of leading a cross-functional team achieving new product objectives inclusive of quality, yield and cost
  • Shown bottom line project management experience (Planning, Cost & Delivery)
  • Direct experience in managing contract manufacturers
  • 30-40% international travel required
Pay & Benefits
  • At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $151,200 and $227,600, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.Note: Apple benefit, compensation and employee stock programs are subject to eligibility requirements and other terms of the applicable plan or program.
