What to Expect

Consider before submitting an application:

This position is expected to start around August 2024 and continue through the entire Fall term (i.e. through December 2024) or into Spring 2025 if available. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site, for most internships.

International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

What You’ll Do

Advanced Automation Electrical Engineering

  • Electrical Controls Engineers in Tesla's Advanced Automation group design, develop and commission machine control systems for Tesla 4680 Cell Manufacturing from concept to implementation, working with in-house Tesla engineering teams and outside vendors. This position owns electrical controls designs inside our groundbreaking Tesla 4680 Cell Manufacturing sites globally, in California, Texas, Berlin, and all future Tesla Cell factories. Tesla Cell Manufacturing is a high-speed manufacturing process containing discrete and continuous operations, extremely high-quality standards and a high degree of automation.
Electrcial Design Engineering
  • Tesla is looking for amazing Interns who are passionate about harnessing electronics, firmware, and test technology areas to drive the world’s transition to a sustainable future. Internship roles in our teams provides significant independence and ownership of design and test projects, while still providing excellent mentorship and guidance. We emphasize collaboration in our work, and always encourage each other to have fun while we change the world together.
What You’ll Bring
  • Basic understanding designing electrical control panels, controls system wiring and instrumentation
  • Experience selecting appropriate circuit protectors, wire and cable, sensors, safety hardware, PLC hardware, remote I/O, variable frequency drives (VFDs), servo systems, and key electrical control components
  • Knowledge of Electrical Standards (NFPA 79, IEC 60204-1, UL508A).
  • Familiarity with Beckhoff and Siemens overall control system/components, with some track record of previous projects implementation on these platforms
  • Familiar with EtherCat, FSoE, ProfiNet and ProfiSafe architecture
