Job responsibilities

  • Manage the architecture, design and delivery of the “control plane” that delivers a database product to our private cloud platform.
  • Provide overall direction, oversight, and coaching for a team of software engineers that work on basic to complex tasks
  • Accountable for decisions that influence teams’ resources, budget, tactical operations, and the execution and implementation of processes and procedures
  • Ensures successful collaboration across teams and stakeholders
  • Identifies and mitigates issues to execute a book of work while escalating issues as necessary
  • Provides input to leadership regarding budget, approach, and technical considerations to improve operational efficiencies and functionality for the team
  • Creates a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect for team members and prioritizes diverse representation

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Extensive experience with Python
  • Experience with at least one of the following languages: Java, C, C++, C#, Go
  • Knowledge and experience of industry wide technology strategies and best practices
  • Unit-testing framework(s) & BDD/TDD
  • Understanding and experience of Agile and Lean philosophies for managing the priorities of the software Engineering team.
  • Experience of Python frameworks - Django/Flask etc.
  • Experience of managing a team of software engineers
  • Ability to guide and coach teams on approach to achieve goals aligned against a set of strategic initiatives
  • Experience with hiring, developing, and recognizing talent
  • In-depth knowledge of the services industry and their IT systems
  • Practical cloud native experience
  • Experience in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field and expertise in technology disciplines

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Software Engineering or equivalent degree
  • Experience with document-oriented database products: MongoDB, MarkLogic, DocumentDB etc
  • Practical experience of architecting & developing applications or platforms on any one of the major public cloud providers (AWS, Google, Azure). Industry cloud certifications are a bonus
  • Infrastructure-as-code experience – Terraform, Ansible, Puppet and/or Salt
