Your responsibilities will include:
- Apply state-of-the-art technology, principles of Engineering, Physics, and Material Science, and best practice development methods to develop, optimize, and evaluate novel or iterative designs based on customer and business needs.
- Drive decisions on mechanical device requirements, feature design, materials, and device performance with project teams.
- Lead a mechanical engineering team or sub-team to deliver on project deliverables, including design requirements, quality requirements, and schedule.
- Interface with functional leads of other key BSC engineering groups (Systems, Electrical, Human Factors, Packaging, Process Development, Manufacturing, etc.) to ensure robust holistic device/component design.
- Track engineering efforts through established project tracking tools and report staffing needs for projects to management.
- Continuously improve processes and work methodologies by interfacing with team, peers, and cross-functional groups to analyze activities for improving workflow and work processes.
- Create, and guide the team to create robust documentation of requirements, protocols, evaluations, reports, etc., through clear and concise documents and filing per approved procedures and standards.
- Review technical documents/publications, attend professional meetings, and interface with suppliers/vendors to stay current on the state of the art.
- Direct technicians or other support personnel on project activities.
- Mentor other engineers in engineering activities/methodologies and domain knowledge.
- Contribute to a strong team culture around high expectations and high performance.
- Provide clear communication to stakeholders at key technical updates.
Required qualifications:
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline.
- 8+ years of work experience with a B.S. or 6+ years with an M.S., primarily in the medical device industry or a related field.
- Robust experience in active implantable or complex electromechanical device design projects.
- Strong knowledge of test/evaluation methods for electromechanical assemblies.
- Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with multi-faceted technology and complex cross-functional product development programs.
- Experience leading development teams on devices or sub-assemblies.
- Demonstrated success delivering design projects with global collaboration.
