What to Expect

Tesla is lookingfor power systems engineers to build on our in-house modelling and gridconnection study capability for our energy storage systems at massscales.

You will interfacewith utilities, independent power providers, and system operators in technicalpower systems discussions, and influence our systems design to facilitatescaling on the grid. You will be responsible for developing detailedmodels of our technology and controls strategies operating on the grid andforming microgrids of different sizes.

The role is diverse, fast-paced,and spans multiple levels of electrical, controls, firmware design, andgrid-operations.

What You’ll Do
  • Act as thetechnical representative for power flow, short circuit, and dynamic modellingdiscussions with customers.
  • Ability to articulate powersystems analyses/results and the interaction of Tesla's technology with thegrid
  • Work with both theproduct design team and the firmware/software teams to keep models current withthe technology roadmap
  • Work with theproduct design team to feed power systems requirement into the productspecification to influence system architecture
  • Work with customersand business development team to create models to represent the Tesla Energysystem in power flow and dynamic modelling software tools
  • Continue toincrease our in-house capability to model Tesla's product in power systemsanalysis software, to include microgrid applications with variousinterconnected resources and larger "macro" grid applications
What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor levelstudy minimum in Electrical Engineering, with demonstrable knowledge of PowerSystems Engineering
  • Expert levelknowledge of at least two power system modelling tools: PSCAD, PSS\E,DIgSILENT, SSAT
  • Experience withmodelling and simulations of inverter-based generation
  • Experience withperformance of interconnection and engineering studies like stability, protection coordination, harmonics, insulation coordination, arch flash, andground grid analyses
  • Strong workingknowledge of control theory, ability to implement PID control
  • Ability to workcross functionally with customers, engineering, business development, anddeployment personnel
  • Direct experiencewith AEMO is an advantage
