What to Expect

As a Mechanical Test Engineer, you will be the "critical but constructive" voice in the room. Your work will ensure our low voltage hardware (including connectors, harnesses, controllers, computers, and sensors) meets stringent internal and industry standards. You will help a dynamic and capable cross-functional team refine cutting-edge technological concepts into innovative, reliable, high-volume products. You will focus on new products, but support the entire product lifecycle: from conceptualization, design, manufacturing, field support, to recycle.

What You’ll Do
  • Perform mechanical testing, supporting Tesla's low voltage programs
  • Design, build, modify and automate test fixtures / equipment
  • Develop methods, tools, and software to accelerate lab output
  • Work with, train, and learn from our technician and engineering staff
  • Lead and participate in FMEA activities and test planning
  • Analyze failures, craft problem statements, and help fix issues discovered during testing and other activities
  • Communicate schedules and status to project managers, coordinate and plan strategic resources
  • Become a trusted expert whose opinion is sought after when difficult problems must be solved
  • Hands-on, scrappy, "the best part is no part" attitude
What You’ll Bring
  • Excellent mechanical first principles, basic (or higher) electrical and software skills - as demonstrated by awesome school & hobby projects such as; statics, stress analysis, materials, fluids, heat transfer, thermodynamics, measurement and instrumentation, linear circuits, digital troubleshooting, fatigue, failure analysis
  • Experience with lab and test equipment (thermal chambers/chillers, electrical tools, pneumatics/hydraulics, strain gauges, thermocouples, imaging, lathe, mill, etc.)
  • Basic working understanding of electronic hardware (analog / active / digital circuitry, power electronics including motor drives, and energy conversion)
  • Ability to create and interpret drawings and schematics with mechanical CAD software such as CATIA & Solidworks
  • Strong communicator of technical content, able to modulate between novice and expert audiences
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant Engineering program (such as Mechanical, Mechatronic, Robotics, Aerospace) or equivalent experience
  • Experience: 1-2 years full-time or internship experience preferred. Physical testing of mechanical, thermal, or electrical systems in an automotive, aerospace, automation, manufacturing, or robotics role. Rigorous hobbies & projects will be considered.
  • Bonus: statistics, automation, data processing, object-oriented-programming, Python, Electrical CAD software (such as Altium & Eagle)
