As a design intern you will undertake an independent design project in your chosen discipline such as an Industrial Design, Architecture, UX design or Design Research while focusing on a specific healthcare context, a medical device, or a healthcare IT product. During your internship, you will work as an extended member of the GE Healthcare global design team and operate from our global design studio situated in Bangalore.You will be responsible to deliver on the assigned design project against the defined design criteria such as aesthetics, ergonomics, user experience, detail design and mock-up / prototype. During your assignment you will have access to the internal designers, subject matter experts, product management and potentially our customers (healthcare institutions) to learn from. You will also have access to the tools our internal designers use for their day-to-day design work, and all the design studio facilities etc.


Roles & Responsibilities

  • Acquire basic product knowledge related to the present GEHC and competitive products through desk-research, live product demonstrations etc.
  • Study GEHC’s design language & principles for hardware/software and apply it to the project specific needs, while also contributing to the enhancement of the design language
  • Conducting user research / observational studies preferably in real use environments and develop insights for meaningful design interventions.
  • Interact with real users, product management and subject matter experts, develop and document the user personas, user journey maps, etc to inform the design process
  • Develop alternative design concepts, create essential deliverables such as sketches, wireframes, 2D/3D CAD models, mock-up models etc for presentation & storytelling
  • Refine the selected design concept, create detail designs, artworks, 2D / 3D drawings / Models etc. good enough to build refined models / prototypes for feasibility & evaluation
  • Develop low / high fidelity Mock-up models / prototype as may be appropriate and perform concept review with target users / customers

Required Qualifications:

  • Persuing or recently conferred (fewer than 6 months) a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Industrial Design, Interaction Design, UX Design, Graphic Design etc
  • Additional prior qualification in other disciplines such as mechanical, electronics, software engineering, or architecture is preferred but not essential.
  • Strong creativity & problem solving skills, proficiency with hands-on design tools including sketching / drawing , 2D / 3D visual design tools such as Adobe Photoshop/ Illustrator, Figma, Rhino, Creo, KeyShot, etc.
  • Working knowledge or hands-on experience with audio / video recording, editing etc & animation is desirable.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, self-motivation to work independently, team working & collaboration skills.
  • Willing to travel domestically up to 10% of the time, including overnight stays, Prepared to observe medical procedures which may be stressful at times
