The Director, Enterprise Risk Management will be an experienced products liability litigator in complex civil litigation matters and will join a fast-paced team of other lawyers and a team of legal professionals who jointly manage cutting-edge litigation in the Enterprise Risk Management group. As an Associate General Counsel, Litigation, Enterprise Risk Management, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Strategically managing complex products liability litigation, including supervising outside counsel and consultants
  • Proactively advising 3M business and Legal Affairs colleagues regarding products liability litigation and related company risk
  • Contributing to the efficiency and effectiveness of the Enterprise Risk Management team

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor degree (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited law school
  • Ten (10) years of complex litigation practice with demonstrated expertise handling products liability litigation matters, in a private, public, government or military environment


Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Experience serving as in-house counsel, preferably with responsibility for products liability litigation matters
  • Experience serving as national or coordinating counsel for significant products liability litigation
  • Experience with general complex civil litigation matters, particularly mass torts or environmental actions
  • Trial and appellate court experience in state and federal courts
  • Currently admitted to practice law in relevant jurisdictions or eligible to become so within 6 months
  • Experience managing or coordinating large teams
  • Experience with monthly budgets
  • Honesty and unwavering integrity
  • Long-term, strategic and practical thinker
  • Highly effective written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to communicate at all levels of the organization, including with business leaders, department leaders and director-level management
  • Self-starter with the ability to triage and manage time-sensitive matters simultaneously and effectively
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate transparently, efficiently and effectively at all levels within a team environment
  • Strong sense of collegiality, curiosity and a drive for continuous improvement
