Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorate Degree or Equivalent International Degree
    • OR Completion of a Legal Apprenticeship.
  • Active license to practice law in a jurisdiction and capable of meeting admission requirements in relevant jurisdiction.
  • 7+ years experience as a practicing attorney
    • OR equivalent practice of law.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications (PQs)

  • In-house counsel experience.

Responsibilities
  • You will serve as primary legal counsel and in collaboration with others across the legal team, providing creative, practical, frontline legal counseling on a broad range of complex legal, buisness and policy issues to the Office Product Group engineering and business teams that develop Office apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and related services.
  • You will engage and partner with business clients to understand OPG business strategies, goals, priorities, landscape, operations and processes to help identify and anticipate highly complex legal issues and opportunities facing Microsoft, as well as lead or contribute to the development of solutions.
  • You will use independent judgment and collaborate with others within and across organizational boundaries to counsel on a broad range of legal, business and policy issues. You will need the ability to think strategically and find creative solutions, and have a willingness to embrace smart risks in ambiguous situations.
  • You willl draft and negoatiate a variety of legal agreemments in coordination with engineering teams, business deeveloment professionals, and other stakeholder partners, includng agreements covering product development/distribution, licensing, collaboration agreements and intellectual property tranactions.
  • You will support relationships with outside counsel to meet the needs of the business and you will advocate for Microsoft’s interests by developing relationships with a variety of legal professionals, customers, and other external parties.
  • You will support processes for improvement, develop and advocate policies and best practices, and provide continuous feedback to significantly improve the quality, timeliness, and efficiency of projects.
  • You will ensure a coordinated legal voice on high-visibility issues by collaborating with others including business and legal leadership. This will involve simplifying and summarizing complex issues into actionable strategies and recommendations.
