As a Stewardship Specialist - Vice President/Associate within the Sustainable Investing team at JPMAM, you will play a crucial role in supporting the delivery of our annual and long-term investment stewardship objectives. You will have the opportunity to contribute to governance analysis, engage with investee companies, and participate in proxy voting. This role will allow you to interact regularly with our research analysts and portfolio managers across Equities and Fixed Income, aligning engagement activities and voting. You will also engage with representatives of the companies in which we invest on specific environmental, social, and governance policies and practices. Your role will be pivotal in promoting and supporting our reporting efforts.

1.Proxy Voting (regional differences – allocation depends on time of year)

  • Research company meeting agenda, identify potential issues and Discuss any issues with investors and stewardship team colleagues ahead of vote
  • Consider whether company engagement is warranted and participate in engagement meeting. Formulate a recommendation for voting and Support voting execution on our systems (and lead on Beta-only holdings) & Support documentation effort as required

2. Engagement

  • Support company meeting preparation/agenda & writing up engagements in to Research Notes – and any client case studies, Support and eventually lead specific projects and initiatives in engagement (such as PAI Central Engagement Framework OR client-specific requests)
  • Discuss any issues with investors and stewardship team colleagues ahead of vote . Participate in engagement meeting – and eventually (1-2 years) lead engagement meetings in some markets (tbc - such as India, Gulf, Africa) .Also, Monitor progress of engagements/milestone mining

3. Case study and reporting

  • Maintain an up-to-date library of engagement and voting case studies for client reporting and public reporting
  • Support our Annual Investment Stewardship Report process

4.Client and commercial interaction support

  • Support the preparation of client meetings and external events (such as slide decks), any non-standard client reporting requests for voting and engagement data and information, responding to requests from rfp and due diligence teams on Stewardship related information & requests from SI CS team and CAMs/CAs on Stewardship
  • Maintain and keep up-to-date our standard investment stewardship deck

5. Research and thought leadership (longer term)

  • Support our broader research and thought leadership on thematically focused stewardship issues and Develop thematic expertise along one of our six priorities

Required Qualifications:

  • Proven presentation, communication and influencing skills; strong report writing skills.
  • Ability to work and drive change effectively in a global, high volume, rapid pace, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Team player.
  • Desire to continue to learn and upgrade domain knowledge in ESG and investments
  • Strong self-motivation and analytical skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree with preferably a focus on finance, business administration, economics, law, accounting or public policy.
  • Financial services experience preferably in Asset Management with previous exposure to investment stewardship activities including corporate governance voting and engagement
  • Experience preferably of sustainability related issues and its overlaps with investment management.
  • Ability / willingness to work with key internal groups – portfolio managers, analysts, product specialists, RFP teams, corporate actions teams; previous buy-side experience on relevant investment approaches an advantage.
