Lead and participate in technical, design, and product discussions with leaders across the organization to drive right decision-making for the long term.

Your day to day

  • Lead and mentor a team of talented engineers, fostering their growth and guiding theircontributions.
  • Develop efficient processes, ensuring the test engineering team is operating with high velocity and always look for opportunities to continuously improve and become better every day.
  • Partner with engineering managers to define and promote quality strategies that enable improving overall product health.
  • Advocate for best practices in code quality, documentation, and overall engineering excellence

What do you need to bring

  • 10+ years of experience in the software industry, with 5+ years of professional experience leading software development teams.
  • Advanced knowledge in software architecture from at least one of: mobile app development, web applications and/or Node or Java backends
  • Experience in software lifecycle including release planning, time estimates, release processes, software testing, incident- and issue management, monitoring & alerting and related.
  • Experience in Agile development (and agile frameworks like Scrum and Kanban) and commonly used tools like Jira and GitHub.
  • Demonstrated self-motivation and self-direction connected with a passion for excellence in product and people.
  • Exceptional communication skills and experience balancing diverse priorities in a fair and transparent manner. Ability to navigate difficult conversations, both on your team and with stakeholder teams
  • A history of orienting teams and setting strategy toward quality engineering goals, with a bias toward impact and velocity
  • A passion for improving developer productivity and a commitment to creating a positive and inclusive engineering culture.
  • Experience managing complex systems, with the pattern recognition to make high-level architectural decisions and the ability to weigh in on implementation questions.
  • Experience turning strategies and plans into reality, partnering with product and design to scope, plan and prioritize work and a commitment to continuous improvement (yourself, your teammates, our software)
  • An eye for design or an ear for the customer; engineering makes substantive contributions to product definition. Strong empathy for consumers and merchants that PayPal serves and an interest in building products that better serve them.
