Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Juris doctor or international equivalent degree and 9+ years of experience as a practicing attorney.
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • Active license to practice law in a jurisdiction and capable of meeting admission requirements in relevant jurisdiction.
  • 3 years+ in-house counsel experience (working within a highly matrixed environment).
  • Prior experience as an attorney in specialized or regulated area of practice (e.g., privacy, cybersecurity, AI, product legal).

Additional or Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing legal projects within a prescribed time frame and budget.
  • A demonstrated record of being an effective collaborator dedicated to collective successes. The ability to promote cooperation and solve problems in a timely, creative, and professional manner.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive material and information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Ability to exercise a growth mindset on new and unfamiliar tasks with a record of experimentation, learning from both successes and failures.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Acting as legal counsel for assigned groups and matters.
  • Providing strategic legal guidance regarding evolving AI regulation with the ability to scale and manage cross-functional projects.
  • Engaging with internal policy partners to support Microsoft’s objectives and external initiatives.
  • Building and maintaining professional, trusted, productive relationships throughout the company and with external parties.
  • Exercising sound judgment in a fast-paced, rapidly changing regulatory environment.
