Job Description

As a Technician in the WDC Fremont Analytical Laboratory, you will be entrusted with the critical responsibility of supporting manufacturing, PE, and R&D through meticulous routine analysis in wet chemistry. This position demands a comprehensive understanding of laboratory instrument operation and exceptional troubleshooting skills. Your duties will extend to conducting rigorous incoming chemical analysis, precise bath makeup/adjustment, and diligent instrument PM/Calibration.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct precise analysis and adjustment of organic/inorganic compounds in plating baths utilizing advanced instrumentation including ICP-OES, HPLC, UV-VIS, Auto-Titrator, and CVS.
  2. Meticulously identify, evaluate, and ensure plating bath formulations adhere strictly to specifications prior to production transfer.
  3. Vigilantly monitor, review, and communicate to guarantee data compliance with Process Specifications. Immediately report any deviations to the process owner and manager, providing comprehensive supporting documentation.
  4. Demonstrate unwavering commitment to operating independently or collaboratively in a high-pressure environment, effectively managing multiple requests and prioritizing tasks for timely completion. Exemplary customer service is imperative.
  5. Execute essential laboratory support functions with utmost precision, including instrument PM, standard preparation, chemical inventory management, and stringent adherence to EH&S regulations through impeccable housekeeping practices.

This position necessitates an individual with exceptional attention to detail and self-motivation. A thorough understanding of laboratory safety protocols and chemical handling procedures is mandatory. The role requires the consistent use of personal protective equipment and the ability to work in cleanroom environments, adhering to all associated protocols.

Qualifications

The following qualifications are essential for this critical role:

  1. Educational Requirement: A Bachelor of Arts/Science degree in Chemistry or a closely related scientific field is mandatory.
  2. Professional Experience: A minimum of two years of experience in an Analytical Laboratory setting, with a strong preference for expertise in wet-chemistry methodologies.
  3. Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated knowledge and practical application of Statistical Process Control (SPC) is crucial for maintaining the highest standards of quality in our operations.
  4. Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities are imperative for effective collaboration within our high-performance team and for producing precise, professional documentation.

  • An employee’s pay position within the salary range may be based on several factors including but not limited to (1) relevant education; qualifications; certifications; and experience; (2) skills, ability, knowledge of the job; (3) performance, contribution and results; (4) geographic location; (5) shift; (6) internal and external equity; and (7) business and organizational needs.
  • The salary range is what we believe to be the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California, Colorado, New York or remote jobs that can be performed in California, Colorado and New York. This range may be modified in the future.
  • If your position is non-exempt, you are eligible for overtime pay pursuant to company policy and applicable laws. You may also be eligible for shift differential pay, depending on the shift to which you are assigned.
  • You will be eligible to participate in Western Digital’s Short-Term Incentive (STI) Plan, which provides incentive awards based on Company and individual performance. Depending on your role and your performance, you may be eligible to participate in our annual Long-Term Incentive (LTI) program, which consists of restricted stock units (RSUs) or cash equivalents, pursuant to the terms of the LTI plan. Please note that not all roles are eligible to participate in the LTI program, and not all roles are eligible for equity under the LTI plan.
