As a Specialist Facilities Mechanical Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Providing design of mechanical systems including HVAC, building automation, industrial ventilation, process piping, plumbing systems and central utilities for 3M facilities and processes
  • Collaborating with a cross-functional team to influence and develop scope in early stages of the project
  • Developing and managing timelines and budgets for assigned projects
  • Successfully interacting with multi-disciplinary teams including 3M plant personnel, consultants, suppliers and vendors
  • Communicating effectively to project team, facility staff and project owners
  • Ensuring application of applicable codes, standards and internal guidelines
  • Overseeing and guiding the design work by consultants for assigned projects


To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (completed and verified prior to start)
  • Seven (7) years of experience in mechanical system design to support industrial facilities and processes in a private, public, government, or military environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Registered as a Professional Engineer
  • 10+ years’ experience in mechanical system design to support industrial facilities and processes including HVAC, building automation systems, process piping, plumbing, and utility systems
  • Proficient in use of project management skills for developing timelines, budgets and coordination of activities
  • Proficient communication and documentation skills
  • Proficient at using electronic tools for design, documentation and communication
  • Team player with the ability to contribute in a matrix environment

Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).
