As a Thermal Design Engineer you will take a critical role in developing systems for VR, AR, Smart Glasses, and Wearables. You will be part of a team exploring and developing consumer electronics products over the full lifecycle, from prototypes to mass-production. You will work as part of a cross functional team requiring collaboration and curiosity in domains inside and outside thermal engineering.
Thermal Design Engineer Responsibilities
  • Support the development of novel thermal technologies with cross-functional teams such as mechanical, electrical, software, operations, mechanical test, and quality.
  • Distill complex designs to simplified analytical models to quickly identify thermal design approaches.
  • Build CFD models of our HW products in early concept phases and validate through prototype testing
  • Validate thermal models through prototype testing
  • Support the development of thermal throttling policies with cross-functional partners.
  • Balance product performance with various component and product limitations
  • Partner with Product Design Engineering to provide feedback and recommendations on how to optimize the thermal design for performance and cost
  • Work closely with CM partners to provide design feedback, lead failure analysis investigations, and drive thermal validation testing and analysis of products built at scale.
  • Partner with thermal material suppliers on integrating and validating new solutions into our products.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 4+ years experience in thermal modeling and analysis
  • Experience using CFD tools such as FloEFD (or equivalent) to model and analyze thermal performance
  • Working knowledge, and demonstrated experience modeling various consumer electronic systems or sub-systems (LCD's, SOC's, etc.)
  • Experience in thermal validation of electronics products.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience developing thermal solutions with a wide variety of components and materials such as aerogels, thin film heat spreaders, phase change materials, and other compliant materials
  • High volume consumer product experience
  • Validation of active cooling components, such as fans and blowers.
  • Mechanical design experience of thermal components, such as fans, heatpipes, and heatsinks.
  • Experience in common programming languages to support test and analysis automation, such as Python, Matlab, or shell.
