We are looking for a Junior Lawyer to join our high performing and growing Tax Law and Controversy team in Melbourne. We provide an end-to-end Tax Law and Controversy service to our clients, which enables the role to have a lot of variety. You will advise clients on a broad range of tax matters with a focus on the technical and tactical management of all things tax. This includes tax administration and complex tax issues including transfer pricing and the anti-avoidance rules. You will also assist our clients in all stages on the tax disputes lifecycle – including tax law advice, binding rulings, voluntary disclosures, ATO reviews, ATO audits, the Part IVC process, evidentiary matters, advice on legal professional privilege and dispute resolution including settlement and litigation.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Advising a range of clients, from large corporates to private groups to high-net-worth individuals.
  • Researching matters of tax administration, getting involved in dispute resolution processes and helping clients respond to requests for information in the context of ATO reviews and audits.
  • Drafting objections, private binding ruling requests, requests for amended assessments and submissions on tax technical matters, penalties and interest.

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • 1-3 years post admission experience in legal practice
  • Sound tax technical skills
  • Ability to develop strong and broad relationships with client and provide a high level of client service
  • Ability to work with a number of different clients and internal stakeholders on multiple deadlines

Ideally, you will also have

  • Experience in tax advisory and tax compliance and reporting
  • Demonstrated ability to assimilate complex tax concepts into everyday business language
