What You’ll Do
  • Design physical experiments to collect high quality material and component level data to inform cell design and modeling activities
  • Conduct mechanical testing of metallic and other materials including tensile and hardness testing
  • Perform materials level characterizations including metallography and microscopy
  • Dissect cells and extract mechanical components for characterization and root cause analysis
  • Develop non-standard test fixtures and characterizations for materials and mechanical components
  • Collaborate with cell mechanical designers to solve design problems and support materials selection activities
  • Support the development of new materials and components for cell design and development
What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelors in Materials Science and Engineering or related fields
  • Knowledge of metals materials properties, including mechanical properties
  • Familiarity with fundamental materials science characterization techniques (such as tensile testing, SEM-EDS, metallography, XRD, etc.)
  • Prior work/academic experience in materials research, materials engineering, metallurgy and/or mechanical testing is a plus
  • Knowledge and familiarity with lithium-ion battery technologies and material requirements is a plus
  • Ability to communicate and consolidate information across multiple stakeholders and teams
