- Design physical experiments to collect high quality material and component level data to inform cell design and modeling activities
- Conduct mechanical testing of metallic and other materials including tensile and hardness testing
- Perform materials level characterizations including metallography and microscopy
- Dissect cells and extract mechanical components for characterization and root cause analysis
- Develop non-standard test fixtures and characterizations for materials and mechanical components
- Collaborate with cell mechanical designers to solve design problems and support materials selection activities
- Support the development of new materials and components for cell design and development
- Bachelors in Materials Science and Engineering or related fields
- Knowledge of metals materials properties, including mechanical properties
- Familiarity with fundamental materials science characterization techniques (such as tensile testing, SEM-EDS, metallography, XRD, etc.)
- Prior work/academic experience in materials research, materials engineering, metallurgy and/or mechanical testing is a plus
- Knowledge and familiarity with lithium-ion battery technologies and material requirements is a plus
- Ability to communicate and consolidate information across multiple stakeholders and teams
