Job Description:

LEGAL COUNSEL, WORKPLACE RELATIONSSPECIALIST

Job Responsibilities

• Designing and executing upon investigation plans, including analyzing specific allegations, collecting and assessing data and documentary evidence, and interacting with employees involved in the reviews, and conducting relevant witness interviews.
• Effectively interacting and communicating with internal stakeholders, including partner teams, HR Business Partners, and business leaders.
• Managing a caseload of multiple internal reviews.
• Making objective and analytically-sound findings and providing recommendations and advice about options for corrective action as well as recommendations for internal improvements to mitigate
risk. Preparing and maintaining casefiles, executive summaries, and reports as part of an end-to-end process.
• Coordinating with internal employment counsel, privacy counsel, outside counsel, and others, as appropriate.
• Identifying and analyzing patterns and trends across reviews and collaborating with internal partners to respond accordingly. Supporting and promoting continuous improvement to the internal review process.
• Learning and benchmarking against external best practices and recommending appropriate changes to internal practices.
• Developing a deep understanding of PayPal’s unique culture and values and bringing objective empathy to investigations.

Qualifications

6+ years of experience conducting complex investigations in an in-house or outside counsel, or relevant government department or agency capacity.
• An enthusiasm for investigations and the important role they play in advancing PayPal’s mission.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact and communicate effectively orally and in writing with employee witnesses, members of leadership, and other key stakeholders.
• A strong personal ethical code and integrity, with a deep respect for privacy and confidentiality.
• The experience and confidence to make difficult decisions and to exercise expert judgment.
• The ability to recognize and put aside personal biases, to see different perspectives, and to conduct all reviews independently and objectively.
• Strong critical thinking and analytical skills, especially in complex and nuanced situations

• An ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a self-motivated, detail-oriented and highly organized manner.
• Curiosity and a learning mindset with a willingness to engage in continual learning and to contribute to the learning of the team.
• Resilience in managing a demanding caseload, balancing shifting priorities, and meeting deadlines.
• A calm demeanor even in tense or high-stakes situations.

-knowledge of US employment laws is a plus
