We are seeking a Process Engineer to join our Optics and Display Engineering team in China. You will play a critical role in productizing modules and systems that are central to delivering transformative experiences in wearable products. Your expertise will be focused on tackling complex integration and assembly challenges, developing module assembly process and tools, lamination process and tools, novel adhesive material development, and maturing these new processes from concept to ramp. You will bridge the gap between proof-of-concept to mass production, ensuring seamless integration into our product lines. You will work closely in a collaborative relationship with subcontract manufacturing partners engineering teams and you will develop the high-volume manufacturing infrastructure required to produce the highest quality hardware.
Manufacturing Process Engineer Responsibilities
Design, develop, and implement equipment for optic modules and display systems, focusing on optical assembly and alignment, and integrate in-tool systems for high-volume manufacturing
Participate in design reviews, tolerance analysis, and FMEA for precision automated equipment, driving development from DFM reviews through FAT and SAT validation
Develop and maintain equipment documentation, including specifications, calibration, and maintenance procedures, while executing on-site equipment development and improvements
Identify and implement UPH improvement and cost-saving opportunities through process and equipment optimization, collaborating with cross-functional teams globally
Lead the design and development of complex manufacturing processes, ensuring scalability for high-volume manufacturing and supporting PFMEA generation for new technologies
Validate processes before engineering builds, lead failure analysis and yield improvement, and publish detailed documentation of procedures and results
Drive cross-functional decisions on process development and architecture, supporting failure analysis on returned systems to enhance processes and equipment
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Materials, Physics, or Optics Engineering and/or equivalent experience
2+ years of experience in the development of assembly processes and equipment for imaging assemblies in consumer electronics devices and/or equivalent experience
Experience in New Product Introduction (NPI) processes, including design for manufacturability, prototyping, and/or production ramp-up in consumer electronics industry
Proven collaboration with large cross-functional teams and multilayer supply chains
Experience working across teams, including internal cross-functional engagements and external domestic/international vendor engagements
Preferred Qualifications
Master/Ph.D. in relevant degree with background in module process development
Experience with full life cycle product launches including production ramp and HVM
Hands-on experience in the development of module processes such as lamination, plasma etching, glass cleaning and polishing, patterning, stacking, dicing, slicing, film deposition, incoming and outgoing process metrology and quality
Demonstrated end to end process integration, working across multiple modules to drive process readiness
Demonstrated failure mode analysis, root cause investigation, and problem solving for product yield and quality issues
Knowledge of measurement system analysis (e.g. equipment/tooling/tester validation) is a plus
Proven communication skills and demonstrated leadership
Proven xxperience in data handling, documentation, critical milestone creation, and organization skill
Experience using statistical tools (e.g. JMP, excel) for process data collection and analysis
Experience in working with subcontract manufacturing partners
Proficient in English communication, additional language skills a plus
