We are seeking a highly accomplished Optical Process Engineer to join the newly-founded Display Engineering China team. As a key member of our China team, you will play a critical role in productizing display modules and systems that are central to delivering transformative experiences in AR products. You will focus on tackling complex display integration and assembly challenges, developing optic module assembly process and tools, lamination process and tools, novel adhesive material development, and maturing these new processes from concept to ramp. You will bridge the gap between proof-of-concept and mass production, ensuring seamless integration into our product lines.
Display Process Engineer Responsibilities
Develop and implement new optical processes and equipment for optic modules and display systems. Develop lamination processes (PSA/OCA/LOCA), lamination tools, and optical alignment tools.
Adhesive selection and qualification for lamination and integration processes
Support design for manufacturability (DFM) and MCO reviews
Support and execute FMEA for new process and tool development
Define and implement rigorous equipment/process validation plan
Develop and maintain process documentation, including requirement specifications (ERS), standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions.
Lead and drive the execution of engineering builds on-site, identify build risks, FA process issues and drive corrective actions(CA) to improve through engineering development and production.
Continuously monitor and improve process performance, including yield, throughput, and quality.
Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities through process improvements and optimization.
Lead process discussions in factories and serve as the process interface between multiple functions (Optics, metrology, reliability engineering, Tech Ops, etc).
Support build milestone XFN reviews
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, especially the teams in the USA to enable productive and efficient work models across time zones.
Lead and guide international suppliers to execute builds, DOEs and data analysis, and scale suppliers’ capability to support multiple product programs.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Materials, Physics, Chemical or Optics Engineering or equivalent experience
10+ years of experience in the development of assembly processes and equipments for display/optical imaging assemblies in consumer electronics devices
Experience in New Product Introduction (NPI) processes, including design for manufacturability, prototyping, and production ramp-up in consumer electronics industry
Experience with lamination and bonding process, equipment, surface treatment, packaging process
Experience with optical adhesive (OCA/LOCA) and structural adhesives, and related process techniques
Experience in material selection, adhesive properties, and polymer science.
Knowledge of optical components and optical component testing for display and imaging, e.g., lens assembly, Polarized Beam Splitter (PBS), polarization optics, beam combining assembly, optical thin film.
Knowledge of developing alignment processes and equipment to optimize optical assembly
Knowledge of automation technologies for precision assembly processes and how to specify automation for high volume production of precision modules
Experience performing and designing DOEs, data analysis, SPC control, Gauge R&R, root cause investigation, failure analysis, implement corrective action
Knowledge of statistical methods and experience in data analysis with tools such as MATLAB, JMP
Experience communicating with cross-functional partners
Experience with common optical metrology instruments and measurement methods, such as interferometry, CMM, and OMM
Tools: Experience in 3D modeling/2D drafting using NX, ProE, or SolidWorks.
6-sigma experience (Green Belt)
Experience directing product and process development efforts at China contract manufacturers
Collaboration and Ambiguity: Proven experience to handle ambiguity and collaborate effectively with large cross-functional teams and multilayer supply chains.
Preferred Qualifications
6 sigma experience (Black Belt).
Knowledge of display quality metrics and applications
Knowledge of thermal and structural analysis and FEA simulations
Experience developing optical calibration procedures for assembly equipment
Experienced in developing processes and equipments for AR/VR applications.
Experience ramping new processes and technologies from development to scale
Track-record of delivering high volume products to the market
Skilled in evaluating and developing new technology capabilities at external vendors.
