Broadcom R&D System Applications Engineer

Responsibilities include

  • Analyze, debug, and root cause issues found within Broadcom’s PCIe switch products and work with appropriate development teams (firmware, software, IC hardware, or board hardware) to provide a solution.

  • Provide guidance to OEM and Cloud customers on properly integrating Broadcom’s PCIe switch products into GP-GPUs, AI/ML platforms, storage servers and custom designs. Guidance consists of architecture reviews, schematic reviews, layout reviews, design-in support and training customers on product features.

  • Develop product documentation for use by customers implementing Broadcom’s PCIe switch products.

  • Develop relations and collaborate with industry partners to provide value to mutual customers.

Other duties include

  • Train Field Applications Engineers, Sales Engineers, and support staff in the features and uses of Broadcom PCIe switch products.

  • Develop tools and processes to improve debug efficiency and customer satisfaction.

  • Occasional travel, some of which may be international.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Experience with firmware, software, hardware and PCIe protocol level debug.

  • Experience developing and debugging C code.

  • Prior experience in embedded software debug or development (firmware, drivers, BIOS) using PCIe technology.

  • Experience reading board schematics and layout files.

  • Skilled at debugging and analyzing high speed analog signals.

  • Skilled in organizing information.

  • Self-motivated and a strong self-driven learner who learns new technologies quickly.

  • Good written and verbal communications skills.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple parallel tasks.

  • Strong interpersonal skills. Must be able to communicate complex technical solutions to customers and internal teams.

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering or related field plus 8 years of relevant experience or Masters Degree in Computer Engineering or related field plus 6 years of relevant experience.

Desirable, but not required skills

  • Experience with NIC, SAS/SATA protocols, RAID, ARM or PPC embedded processors, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, and oscilloscopes.

  • Ability to perform SMD/SMT soldering and rework.

  • Presentation skills.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual base salary range for this position is $119,000 - $190,000.

This position is also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus in accordance with relevant plan documents, and equity in accordance with equity plan documents and equity award agreements.
