What you will learn and contribute to

As part of our team, you will:

• Acquire knowledge on passive optical networks (PON) and the physical layer in PON technologies through an initial literature study.
• Develop and design an RTL implementation on FPGA or ASIC of several state-of-the-art signal processing algorithms.
• Extend an FPGA framework that will enable the verification of hardware-implemented signal processing algorithms and which can be deployed in combination with a large range of lab conditions taking the specific constraints of the PON challenges into account.
• Propose out-of-the-box solutions which have a high-performance impact.
• Document and present the developed system and results to a wider Bell Labs audience

Education Recommendations

You are:

• Available of at least 3 months
• Fluent in English

You have:

• A positive and open mindset and strong drive to succeed
• Experience with HDL languages such as Verilog, Systemverilog or VHDL.
• Experience with hardware (FPGA) design, simulation and related tools such as Vivado, QuestaSim, Synopsys VCS or others.
• Familiarity with MATLAB.

You will get exposed to:

• Optical telecommunication systems and technologies
• Digital signal processing algorithms in the field of communications (e.g., equalization)
• Hardware design and simulation

It would be nice if you also had:

• Demonstrated early research results through journal papers or other industry recognition
