The Role

The work:
  • Set strategy & execute communications plans that help elevate the Netflix brand by working closely with cross-functional counterparts
  • Create high-impact campaigns, and develop proactive stories centered around films & series titles with an emphasis on trying new and innovative ways to promote our brand
  • Explore and continuously build strong relationships with key media outlets, journalists, and opinion formers
  • Act as the point of contact for business partners and organizations when participating in partner panels, film festivals, and other forums
  • Support relationship building and engagement with local third parties on key issues related to our content, social impact efforts and representation efforts
  • Act as the informed captain to coordinate press conferences, roundtables, and any other interview opportunities driven by Communications
  • Develop useful and impactful press materials in support of the campaign for media use
  • Develop reactive communication plans related to issues and risks with content and legal as partners
  • Formulate and manage a budget, and give visibility into the process successfully
  • Manage PR agencies integral to creating impact, and staying efficient
Qualifications:
  • Have 7+ years of experience in communications.
  • Fluency in both written and spoken Japanese and English.
  • Be a storyteller. Embrace we’re an entertainment brand who develops and tells compelling stories that promote Netflix as a studio.
  • Have excellent judgment with in-depth knowledge about the related industries and competitive landscape affecting the business, and should be capable of serving as a spokesperson of the company
  • Have a strong network of relationships with journalists and key opinion formers.
  • Have creative and innovative ideas to talk about our brand, product, and related issues by closely partnering with various stakeholders in not just the traditional media landscape but also the social and online
  • Is able to work cross-functionally and build relationships inside and outside the organizations; Passion for external relations across media, social, and content partners.
  • Be a succinct communicator in a 'hands-on' role, detailed and highly organized.
  • Have a bias for action who is known to manage things in a timely manner. A go-getter who actively secures and places great stories about our brand
  • Familiar with, and/or enthusiastically curious about the entertainment sector, technology, innovation and media
  • Prior experience working for global brands is a plus.
