MSD Junior Data Scientist Intern - Part time student

Animal Health IT Advanced Analytics team in MSD is looking for a part time junior data scientist to join our team. We are currently exploring projects that involve vaccines and viral sequence clustering. The successful student data scientist will work alongside experienced data scientists who will mentor on technical level and help grow.

Primary job responsibilities include:

• Being part of bigger team that is delivering DS solution across projects in AH which means:
• Understanding of the business context of the decisions to be supported at the level appropriate to junior position
• Analysis and understanding of the existing code base in R
• Developing and/or improving the functions of the product in the context of a given high-level architecture
• Writing unit tests and functional tests for existing and new functions
• Staying up to date with the most recent development in R and its packages
• Working with multiple collaboration DevOps tool such as JIRA, Git and Confluence
• Further responsibilities might be related to core data science including exploratory data analysis, running simple statistical tests, and drawing high-level conclusionsfrom the data

Qualifications and Education Minimum Requirement

• Studying Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Physics, Economics, or another related field. Master’s and PhD students preferred.

Required:

• Passion for machine learning, and good quality code
• Some understanding of biology
• Experience with R

Advantage, knowledge or experience in one or more of the following areas:

• mathematical analysis and modelling
• probability
• phylogenetic analysis
• clustering
• HPC or cloud computing
• Shiny
• advanced visualization skills

• The ability to formulate algorithms and statistical models, analyse them, program them, and run simulations in appropriate system
• Broad communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to make presentations for business

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a globally dispersed team.
