The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

As a Regulatory Specialist you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Lead emerging regulations projects for timely implementation of emerging regulations associated with material compliance
  • Executes regulatory intelligence activities including monitoring, assessing and communicating impacts on businesses and products to relevant business, division, corporate, manufacturing, and regulatory body stakeholders
  • Collaborate cross-functionally and externally for effective advocacy that advances the Transportation and Energy Vertical Business
  • Represent 3M in industry working groups, trade associations, and external forums, supporting the development of regulatory standards and transportation and energy sector advocacy
  • Support the division by responding to societal trends and customer concerns relating to product transparency and regulatory compliance which includes NHTSA, TREAD, WARN Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, and Global equivalents
  • Interacts closely with Division Risk Management process leader including collaboration on ISO standards related to risk management.
  • Interacts with customers and suppliers as needed per Regulatory and Sustainability activities
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a Science or Engineering discipline (completed and verified prior to start)
  • Five (5) years combined experience in Product Compliance, Product Stewardship, Sustainability, Materials science, Quality, or Regulatory Affairs role in a private, public, government or military environment
  • Three (3) years of project management experience

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Master’s degree or higher in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related discipline from an accredited institution
  • Experience working with high-risk applications, global customers, global regulatory bodies, and government agencies
  • Strong project management skills and proven ability to work independently, manage multiple global projects, have a thirst for learning, and drive for tangible results in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
  • Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills with both internal and external stakeholders, effectively translating complex concepts into clear, understandable ideas.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation capabilities; confident working across varied audiences including clients, internal teams, executive leadership, and industry events.
  • Exceptional research, analytical, and critical thinking skills; ability to interpret regulatory texts and translate complex information for a broad audience.
