The Senior EHS Manager will serve as the lead EHS subject matter expert on technical and regulatory aspects, EHS management systems, EHS program standards, and EHS best practices, in the region. This role requires strong project management skills and close collaboration with internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure ongoing site-level compliance and risk management effectiveness.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Being accountable for EHS performance metrics and implementation of improvement plans

  • Design, develop, implement, execute and maintain all EHS programs, procedures, processes and systems to ensure regional and site-level compliance with EHS laws and regulations, and align with Corporate EHS standards and strategies

  • Perform EHS compliance applicability reviews and EHS risk assessments and implement effective programs to ensure regulatory compliance and protection of employees, and the environment

  • Conduct workplace inspections / assessments at regional sites at various intervals

  • Provide EHS service, solutions, programs, best practices and guidance to functional and operational teams, site operations management and site EHS Representatives to effectively manage compliance assurance and EHS risk mitigation

  • Develop and provide training on company and regulatory technical safety and environmental requirements

  • Support EHS incident investigations to determine and implement root cause corrective actions

  • Oversee EHS corrective and preventative actions; drive actions to closure

  • Create, collect, measure and analyze regional and site EHS metrics and KPI's to discover trends for continuous improvement or to initiate targeted prevention programs

  • Perform management reviews and report on EHS performance and tactical and strategic improvement planning

  • Manage regulatory agency and external stakeholder EHS activities, including reporting, visits, or inspections

  • Monitor developments, trends, emerging issues, legislation, and regulations related to EHS, and best practice trends in the industry and interpret and incorporate changes/updates to EHS programs

  • Serve as a thought partner and strategic advisor on the EHS Leadership team to shape strategy on critical business and/or program issues

IT Core Competencies

  • Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, WORD, EXCEL, PowerPoint) and SharePoint

  • Adapts to technology quickly to complete work objectives; confidently uses new techniques and/or technologies as a routine part of work assignments; has firm grasp of how to use core computer programs

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental, health, safety or scientific or related engineering field

  • 10+ years’ experience in EHS, with demonstrated experience in managing multi-location/regional EHS programs in a company with global operations

  • 3+ years managing teams

  • 3+ years’ experience in OHSAS18001, ISO14001, ISO45001 or similar accredited EHS management systems

  • Experience prioritizing and managing multiple and technical assignments concurrently

  • Analytical, problem-solver, and project management experience

  • Experience establishing and maintaining cross-functional working relationships

  • Broad communication skills and demonstrated experience in understanding of business value drivers

  • Ability to travel, 25-30%, including international

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree and 9+ years of Environment Health & Safety related work experience.

Associate's degree and 11+ years of Environment Health & Safety related work experience.

High School Diploma or equivalent and 13+ years of Environment Health & Safety related work experience.

*Completed advanced degrees in a relevant field may be substituted for up to two years (Master’s = one year, Doctorate = two years) of work experience.

• Master's degree in EHS related field.

• 11+ years of progressive responsibility working in one or more of the Environment, Health & Safety disciplines.

• Internationally recognized accredited safety professional certification or credential.

• 3+ years of work experience in a role requiring interaction with executive leadership (e.g., Vice President level and above).

• 3+ years of experience working in a large matrixed organization.

• 3+ years in a leadership role with direct reports.

Level of Responsibility:

• Works independently with no supervision.

• Provides supervision to other supervisors/managers who are direct reports.

• Decision-making is critical in nature and highly impacts program, product, or project success.

• Requires verbal and written communication skills to convey highly complex and/or detailed information. May require strong negotiation and influence with large groups or high-level constituents.

• Oversees budgets, schedules, and performance standards for multiple departments or functional areas.

• Has a great degree of influence over key organizational decisions (e.g., is making or directly making key decisions that will have substantial impact over the organization).

• Tasks often require multiple steps which can be performed in various orders; extensive planning, problem-solving, and prioritization must occur to complete the tasks effectively.

Physical Requirements

  • May involve occasional work in a cold, hot, high noise, at heights, or wet environment

  • Work may be required outside of the standard 8-hour workday, including weekends

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer

  • Must be able to lift, push, pull and carry up to 25 lbs. and remain standing or walking for extended periods in the performance of site inspection and compliance activities

  • Perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, standing, and walking significant distances

  • In general, the position requires a combination of sedentary work and walking around observing conditions

Pay range:

$130,000.00 - $195,000.00
